Y 3 front Y 3 Spring/Summer 2013 Runway

Y-3 is celebrating its 10th anniversary with  the mission to “Define the future of sport and style.”  To celebrate they have launched   a collection filled with covetable looks  featuring refined tennis dresses with pleated skirts, jersey shirts with tiered ruffles, and mesh swing dresses with asymmetric draw-cord details. Prints motifs called ‘Feather’, ‘Water’, and ‘Thorn’ designed by Mr. Hayashi in loud colors orange, blue, pink and green complete the futuristic looks.

Of the collection, Mr. Yamamoto said:

“My desire was and still is to make sportswear elegant and chic. With Y-3, we created something that did not exist before. After 10 years, we are falling in love with the three stripes once more.”

Y-3 Fall 2010

 Y 3 Fall 2010

There’s lots of discussion out there about designers making their runway shows more democratic by live-streaming them, but at least until the technology improves, aint no way that is replacing actually being there. Case in point Y-3. In reading the reviews on Style, I discover that Yohji was clearly dealing with some anger management issues when he designed this collection because it included tee-shirts which read, “33 Years in Prison” and “23 Years in Prison – 20 = Y-3,” none of which are captured in the photos. And at the end of the show, which was backdropped by Paul Simon’s “50 Ways to Leave Your Lover,” Yohji punches a male boxer and then is himself punched out by a woman! Anway, I like this collection because it reminds me of my partner, Samia, all snuggy and layered up….stuff you can hide from the world in if you are so inclined.

Yohji Yamamoto and Salvatore Ferragamo have teamed up to bring us a small line of shoes. The collection has yet to be unveiled but we hear the line will feature red sculpted shoes with a price range of approximately $450 to $1000. The collabo between the two fashion giants will drop early July and will be available at both Yohji Yamamoto and Salvatore Ferragamo flagship stores.
