Y 3 SS13 1 Ad: Y 3 By Pierre Debusschere Spring 2013

Come Spring, Adidas and Yohji Yamamoto will celebrate ten successful years of collaborative efforts. To mark the event, Adidas has brought on photographer Pierre Debusschere, with the result a photo series featuring bold colors and graphic lines that celebrate both the collection and its theme of movement, distortion and transformation.

The accompanying campaign film, also directed by Pierre Debusschere, is an examination of the same themes. On the Y-3 website user will be able to interact with the video content and create their own video clips through manipulation of sound and image.

Tsumori Chisato- Pluma sweatpants

As an advocate of style for every occasion seldom do I see features on versatile bum-around apparel. On those laid back days when  the last thing on your mind is trying to  put together a complex outfit it’s good to have  pieces that are unfussy, yet  still have  a cool factor that can also be dressed up. Yes there is room for the decade old phys-ed pants with your high school or college logo but for true women of style there’s always room for a little edge. Hence this feature  focused on the quintessential sweatpants.

From Lucas Nascimiento’s astro glitter version (my fave) to Y-3’s slim silhouette and Tsumori Chisato’s cozy knit (above),  on the next page take a look at some pretty stylish sweatpants. Hover over each item for designer names and click on the picture to go straight to the web retailer. Enjoy!

Y-3 Fall 2010

 Y 3 Fall 2010

There’s lots of discussion out there about designers making their runway shows more democratic by live-streaming them, but at least until the technology improves, aint no way that is replacing actually being there. Case in point Y-3. In reading the reviews on Style, I discover that Yohji was clearly dealing with some anger management issues when he designed this collection because it included tee-shirts which read, “33 Years in Prison” and “23 Years in Prison – 20 = Y-3,” none of which are captured in the photos. And at the end of the show, which was backdropped by Paul Simon’s “50 Ways to Leave Your Lover,” Yohji punches a male boxer and then is himself punched out by a woman! Anway, I like this collection because it reminds me of my partner, Samia, all snuggy and layered up….stuff you can hide from the world in if you are so inclined.

Y-3 Fall 2009: Check Out the Front Row!

lupekanyemillakimreggie Y 3 Fall 2009: Check Out the Front Row!

Look at the peanut gallery in place for the Y-3 Fall 2009 show! From left-to-right: Lupe Fiasco, Kanye “Launcher of a Thousand Trends” West, Milla Jovovich, KimK and KimK’s man Reggie. They’re not pictured here, but to the right of Reggie is Ian Thorpe and borderline super model Veronica Webb. I’ve always wondered what it would feel like to be sitting among a crowd like this. Kanye and Kim are obviously at the top of their respective games these days, but I wonder if one or two of the other ones don’t sit there secretly being eaten away by imposter syndrome.
