In an issue dedicated to celebrating the intersection of music and fashion, V magazine’s editorial “The Queen Of Hip Hop” includes a top, skirt and shoes by none other than Kanye West. Looks fab, still adoring the shoes.
Other designers shown in this super fun shoot include Patricia Field, Prada, Reed Krakoff, Billionaire Boys Club, Versace, Manolo Blahnik, Calvin Klein and House of Dereon. Via Thecut via Models.
It’s Lara Stone for V Magazine’s “Heroes” issue, worked on by Mario Testino and Carine Roitfeld, who used Elizabeth Taylor as the inspiration for a 72-page editorial. The images here and the ones of Stone on the next page really are lovely. The eyebrows are fantastic of course but so is her faded ginger hair, which matches her lipstick oh so perfectly, plus the diamonds and the lighting, and so on and so forth. Via Stylist.
Lady Gaga’s column for V magazine (above is the cover) debuted today. Thecut provides the link to the entire missive. Here is one excerpt from the column, which this month is titled “Piet Mondrian & Libary Cards”:
“Any writer or anyone for that matter, who doesn’t understand the last two sentences of this column should NEVER be writing or critiquing fashion or artists in publication. As someone who references and annotates her work vigilantly, I’m putting all of you on notice. I’ve done my homework, have you? Where are your library cards. Did they expire?”
Below are some of the early fashion writer responses to the column–folks are not happy.
“The New York Times has seen Lady Gaga’s debut fashion column for V magazine’s summer issue, and as it so happens, she’s is a veritable expert on…everything.” –Blackbook
“Gaga’s column for the high fashion glossy also debuted today. It’s really long. And defensive. And kinda pretentious.” –Fashionista
“Dare: Read Lady Gaga’s Entire V Column Without Rolling Your Eyes” –Headline from Thecut
As of late, Gaga has come off as very defensive about her music choices and now she expands that posture to her take on fashion. Granted, the level of criticism hurled daily at this woman is over the top, but someone should let her know that no one is insisting she be a music or fashion Einstein at the age of 25. She can have good instincts combined with a lusty intellectual curiosity and that’s enough.
Given her elite educational background (tuition per year at Sacred Heart High School where she attended is $35,600/year), it’s hard not to wonder if her I’m-better-informed-than-you-are attitude wasn’t fostered during her teens, when academic competition was no doubt super fierce with an abundance of “tracked students” vying for a very limited number of seats in Ivy colleges. If that’s the case, we can probably look forward to being schooled/scolded by Gaga on a monthly basis–can’t wait!
Lady Gaga is on the cover of an upcoming V Magazine, which will be Asian-themed…..except apparently for the image that fronts the issue. She’s photographed by Inez Van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin and style by, you guessed it, Nicola Formichetti.
See another V Magazine cover image of Lady Gaga, this time ”Bollywood”-themed, on the next page.
Lady Gaga is set to begin a monthly column for V magazine, and as part of the deal she requested that it be accomanpanied by an illustration of her as drawn by the winner of a contest, held for each edition. For the first issue, the deadline is April 3rd. Art should be sent to drawnthisway@vmagazine.com. Of course we encourage you to try–good luck if you do!
She’s never been your average chick and because of (rather than in spite of) her highly documented ups and down, not to mention an enviable catalog of inonic pop greats, Britney Spears occupies a unique place in pop culture. Via TFS, we have some blurry screen captures from a recent episode of E News, which featured a sneak peek of her upcoming cover for V magazine’s issue No. 80, shot by Mario Testino. More images on the next page, including the cover, shot in multiple colors.
We showed the cover shot of Nicki Minaj for V Magazine issue No. 69 and now the interior editorial, in which we see Nicki via her war-painted up face aint a woman who’s scared of much. More on the next page.
Nicki Minaj lands another magazine cover. This time it’s V Magazine’s issue No. 69, where the headline declares “The Birth Of A Star.” It’s been interesting to watch Minaj’s rise over this past year and the magazine covers she has landed, with this one indicating she’s becoming one that the fashion world is beginning to watch. Certainly her timing is good; just when the media was beginning to tire of Lady Gaga’s over-the-top fashion statements, in strolls Minaj riding the wave of publicity from her Pink Friday album launch. Will she have the style chops to keep the fickle fashionistas intrigued? We shall see.
This V magazine video of the models standing around before they walk is kind of boring, but we’re fascinated by every molecule of this brand so there you have it. And on that note, we see via FashionCopious that Cathy Horyn has decided to go in on Alex Wang’s collection, calling him a thief and not even a very good one at that. It’s always entertaining when someone of Horyn’s power decides to hate on a popular designer/artist/entertainer to that degree. It’s almost as though her goal is to let you know how smart and informed she is and how the masses may be fooled but not her. Reminds me a little of Camille Paglia’s recent dismissal of Lady Gaga. So heavy handed as to mean more about Paglia than anyone else.
