Mary Katrantzou: Graphic Stunner!

marykatrantzou Mary Katrantzou: Graphic Stunner!

Never heard of her before, but I’m amazed by designer Mary Katrantzou’s graphic work. Her Spring/Summer ‘09 collection, according to her website, is inspired by early ’70s references and the prints are described as “trompe l’oeil digital prints of oversized jewelry on bonded jersey dresses.” The collection includes real accessories as well. Again we see a reference to the blurring of fantasy and reality (see post on artist Jasper Goodall’s “Poster Girl” collection).

Fendi Sankeskin Bag S/S09

02 October 2008, 17.26 | Posted in Accessories, Design, Fashion | No comments »

Fendi’s recent runway show was totally blah, but in looking over the images at Style, I was 100 percent smitten by one of the featured bags. There weren’t any great shots of it there, but I checked over at photographer Sonny’s site and natch, he had some great ones of this very it bag.

DC S/S 09: Boy Meets Girl

25 September 2008, 17.15 | Posted in Fashion | No comments »

After my visit with Onitsuka Tiger yesterday, I headed uptown to the Garment District to see what the women of DC were up to. First up, the women’s spring clothing line, whose theme is "Boy Meets Girl." The line is inspired by all of your guy’s favorite pieces, albeit made strictly for the females in cut, color and details.

^^I love the checks on this, plus there’s a cute little black bow tie above the buttons that you can’t see. And the cut is perfect–just long enough to show off some curves.

Look for February/March 2009 delivery on all the items featured here.

Rodarte: One Last Look

16 September 2008, 18.07 | Posted in Accessories, Fashion, Shoes | No comments »

The Rodarte collection as shown at NY Fashion week had my heart soaring last week and I did a post featuring some backstage photography, which can be found here. I meant to post some images from the show but got a little busy. Yes, I’m late, but the show is deserving.

^^The only issue being that there are few that have the presence of personality to pull off wearing this.

Three more stunners on the other side.

Rodarte S/S 09 NY Fashion Week: Leaves ‘Em in the Dust!

12 September 2008, 19.50 | Posted in Accessories, Art, Design, Fashion | No comments »

In looking around at everyone’s coverage of NY Fashion Week, I stumbled across fashion photographer Sonny’s coverage of the Rodarte show. And all I could think was, wow, how’d I miss this?? The shoes, the leggings(!), the dresses(!!). I mean, you know how sometimes you see something and your eye feels a little startled and you get that butterfly feeling of excitement ’cause you know you’re seeing something that is a glimpse of what’s next? That’s how Rodarte’s collection felt. And their  leggings? Everyone else’s just officially got left in the dust.

HighSnobettiest Item of the Day: Marc by MJ Pac Belt!!

10 September 2008, 17.00 | Posted in Uncategorized | No comments »

The slobbering over Marc continues with the presentation of his Marc by Marc Jacobs line. As spectacular as his Marc Jacobs collection was, it’s not surprising that his MJ by MJ collection was a tad lackluster in comparison. But even if the overall show was a bit blase, there were the usual covetable accesories. The belt featured here? All I can say is, wow. A fanny pac that’s not actually a fanny pac. I’ve been waiting for this and Marc has finally delivered it. In purple and orange no less.

Marc Jacobs S/S 09 Bags: Puts Everyone Else to Shame

09 September 2008, 21.30 | Posted in Accessories, Art, Design, Fashion | No comments »

If you want, you can see photo stills of Marc’s collection over at Style, which has a cool feature that enables you to zero in on one or two of the model’s accessories. That’s where I pulled this bag image from.

Marc is to bags like Nike is to sneakers. He does what he does so well that he makes it look simple. Like he was born to do it. And okay, he doesn’t always hit a homerun–the Rolls Royce bag springs to mind, but he usually does. (And to be honest, this photo doesn’t even do the bag justice and it’s not even the best one in the collection.)

Three as Four: S/S09 at NY Fashion Week: Pull Up to the Bumper Baby!

09 September 2008, 15.03 | Posted in Design, Fashion | No comments »

After a sternly colored Fall 2008 collection threeASFOUR took a turn for the more fun and games for Spring 2009. Their strongest suit remains playing futuristic geometrics against flowy femininity, but this time the result is a little more super heroine than Disney princess

Miss Sixty: S/S 09 @ Fashion Week: Not Afraid

08 September 2008, 19.57 | Posted in Fashion | No comments »

Not sure I’ll be able to keep up with the blinding pace at which Fashion Week operates, but I’ll do my best to grab images from the shows that stand out. First up is Miss Sixty. Lots of designers because of the wretched economy are going to pull back and go conservative, but Miss Sixty (designed by Mr. Wichy Hassan–what a great name!) won’t be one of them.

Miss60Jkt Miss Sixty: S/S 09 @ Fashion Week: Not Afraid

Definitely the most street-inspired of all the designers we will probably see this week, Hassan dug into the emerging raw color trend with gusto. Many more images after the flip….
