For Fendi’s Spring 2012 leather shoes and bags perforated leather was the uniting theme. In my mind Fendi is positioned as the badass lux brand so meh, a little disappointed by this accessory collection, which felt a little too good girl to me….like, the candy-colored studs just made me sad. Still, there were a couple of items that stood out, like the straw bag with the leather front flat featured here–very wicked. And then there are some feather-trimmed clutches that are interesting. Went and got a new set of nails by my girl Maki the other day and it turns out she was on the nail art team–as led by nail artist Yuna Park–for the Ruffian Spring 2012 show and had pics from the show. Ruffian was one of the first runway designers to embrace nail art in a big way and the half moon shown here has become something of a trademark for the designer, with some even referring to the design as the Ruffian. Each season the designis updated and this year it featured bright colors and stripes, reflecting the sporty themes for the label’s Spring 2012 presentation.

Photographer Julia Chesky was a fan of the all-white outfit model Hanne Gaby Odiele wore to the Alexander Wang spring 2012 show and so are we.  Do tell us, sneakerheads….what are the kicks she’s wearing?

The Kanye West invites to his very first runway show have gone public. October 1st is date of the big event. Folks are guessing that the collection, called Dw,  is named for his dear momma, Donda West. Can’t help but wonder why he chose Paris Fashion Week to debut his line. Months ago I would have guessed London would be the spot, as he has expressed an affinity for that city in his music.

Was it convenience, timing? Then again, Paris has an established history of providing a place of refuge to black American artists. Perhaps because of this West concluded it would be less of an inferno from a press-hype perspective.  Whatever the reason, I’m excited and I will not lie–I’m rooting for a show that’s as controversial, amazing and awesome as West is. Can’t wait!

At first glance the idea  of the woman as creature/fierce thing, as directed by Ruth Hogben  for  Gareth Pugh’s Spring 2012, can be dismissed as been-there-done-that futuristic. However, on a deeper level  I happen to think that  the representation aptly exemplifies the all encompassing power of female energy that too often get misunderstood or belittled. Ok,  got really cerebral with that one, but I think that ’s the idea. Hope you like it!

The idea of the little demure black dress gets turned on its head by Anthony Vacarello for Spring 2012. Cutouts, peeks of flesh bringing “torrid sexy” back in a way we have not seen in a while, and we like it. See the whole line here.

Anchoring the quite exuberant and optimistic fashion shown by Missoni for Milan Fashion Week were these “Candyland” sandals. Are they right for these doomy-gloomy and overly serious times? Ah well, someone needs to keep the embers of positivity burning for sunnier days ahead, no? Via Coolechic.
