TopShop Unique showed yesterday during London Fashion Week, and after a week of generally staid hair and makeup choices at the NY shows, TopShop’s big hair and cherry red lips was a refreshing change. As for the rest, the futuristic hippy looks were best, especially the satin dresses and tops featuring warm graphics and the the shoes in general (tassles plus lucite!) were very different and neat-o. London Fashion Week has kicked off and we launch the event with a video of Mary Katranz’s Spring 2011 offerings. Katranz is known for marrying fahion and illustration and the visual results are arresting.

Fun collection with lots of appealing pieces, which are at their best when Gwen Stefani channels her grown and sexy ska-rock roots. Perfect for women who are over super-tight everything but still want to project that feminine-but-tough, outside-the-mainstream look. I just wished Stefani had left out the African prints, which just seemed wrong from a color and pattern perspective. Love the ocelot print bags, which Gwen highlighted in her showroom interview, making bags and shoes a continued strength for the line. Images via Style. More on the next page.

Gwen Stefani forever gracious and yet still totally bad ass is interviewed in her showroom before she showed her Spring 2011 collection last night. You get the feeling she wishes the collection had taken a slightly less bright direction when she states, “Prints are hard to pull off and do well….they’re scary, sometimes you just want to be black and be safe.” And then she highlights a grey suit and laments not having more pieces similar to it. At the end when she’s asked who’s attending and you expect to here here her rattle off some big celebrity names, you gotta love that she answers, family, No Doubt members and her friends in that order.

Is there a more consistenly great designer? Love the suede group and the way Lauren combined dusky flannel shirts with shimmery skirts.

As fun as the weddding dress was, this “I Love NY” tank top from Jeremy Scott’s Spring 2011 runway is going to be the hot item. A close-up on the white, cloven-toe engineer boots featured in the show on the next page. Via OC.

Tory Burch did a presentation of her Spring 2011 line and the videographer covers each and every outfit. Burch loosened up a bit with her resort collection, but for Spring she went back to channeling her prim side. The camera also heads backstage and pans over shoes and accesories, plus there’s an interview with Tory Burch and Kanye, flashing his new grill.

We wrote about this show yesterday. The grand finale was a straight-jacket wedding dress, which first appears at 8:53 if you want to jump ahead. I love how Jeremy Scott comes out in the end in wings and walks the runway like one of he models instead of the usual quick, shy wave.

Earlier this week we featured images of label Ruffian’s latest interpretation of the manicure it made famous. In the video above, the camera goes backstage and zeroes in on the manicures.
