John Galliano can do no wrong. Dior’s Haute Couture Spring 2009 collection is sheer perfection. With oversized feathered hats and voluminous ball gowns fit for Scarlett O’Hara, the line had a southern peach meets Little Bo Peep feel. The color palate was delicious and an obvious homage to Dutch painter Johannes Vermeer, who he has cited as his inspiration for the collection. Even with all of the sculptural elements, Galliano managed to make the expansive skirts and billowing sleeves look light as air.

You see Armani and most of the time you can’t help but think red carpet. Actresses like him ’cause his designs look the money and he’s chic  but not so much so that you’re ever gonna find yourself caught out there in one of his gowns. For his Spring 2009 showing, you can still envision a lot of the dresses he showed all over the Oscars, but there was something wicked around the edges about the collection, brought forth by the make-up, hair and of course the accessories.

Just received images of M.O.B.’s Spring 2009 collection and am BEEyond ecstatic to see that the crew is joining forces with Kid Sister!!! It’s a match that’s feels  good like dark skinny jeans and a fresh pair of hightops, like a poppin’ manicure and 14K gold jewelry…hell, like sex with a man whose package feels so custom it’s scary.

Kudos to designer Leah McSweeney for continuing to upgrade her design and graphics game. I know I gush about this woman all the time, but I’ve been in this game for a minute and know no one who brings  it better.

Who doesn’t love Jean Paul the man? Still, the nagging sense that’s he’s struggled over the years to recreate the magic of the 90s remains. No doubt this issue is in part connected to cash, which is critical to building a brand’s coolness cache . My guess is that Jean Paul doesn’t have as much of it as some of the other titans of the business.  Alas, life is anything but fair. That being said, his latest collection was lovely to look at…

Chanel gave a funeral for its Spring 2009 collection and every one wore white. Karl must have been in a matchy matchy mood ’cause the models were all white, too. Well, a few wore black or black and white, but you get the picture.

Beautifully executed of course, but we expect more from you, Karl.

When Karl designed this collection no doubt news of massive layoffs at the company were swirling all around him so I can understand the lack of  life, but damn this is supposed to be a year of hope! Like Harvey Milk in the movie says, “Without hope, life is not worth living. You gotta give ‘em hope. You gotta give ‘em hope.”

Looking at Christian Lacroix’s  s/s 09 accessories I could not help but wonder if he was in his own way making a statement to the ridiculous standards of thin-ness the fashion industry holds their models to.If he was just moved by the shape of  the skeleton or If it was a nod to halloween. A "Holiday" that takes bigger proportions every year in Ny at least… my caribean backround just cannot get into the spookiness… If you ‘ve been around island folks you know what I mean some things you just don’t play with…I’ll rock that  cuff bracelet tough…

I remember going to school in the morning and seeing the flower merchants walking down the hills of Bourdon with huge baskets of flowers on their heads.The sight of these women dressed in mis-matched clothes carrying on the heads gravity defiying amounts of flowers held a beauty   and a strength in my eyes.

There is beauty in survival and strength and I loved  that Junya Watanabe chose to Illustrate it in his Spring 09 show. Having partly  grown up in a country who has become the poster child  of  poverty  for the western hemisphere, I find that the beauty and strenght of the people, especially the women often gets overlooked ….See the full amazing,very real show here courtesy of Style.
