Rika is not only a bi-annual publication but also a fashion brand that focuses on detail-orientated bags, accessories and also includes a small RTW collection. Together with NY-based design director Jacob Wildschiodtz, Ulrika Lundgren created the independent magazine ‘Rika” a manifesto of Rika’s philosophy:

For the latest issue, photographer Ellen Muliarchyk shot Solange Knowles for a very authentic spread in the setting of her home where she channels a sultry blend of earthy sexiness with hints of Brooklyn badass!
We wrote about the making of the Solange Knowles video for the song “Losing You” and now we have the finished product. Filmed in South Africa, it is a surprisingly sweet song about lost love. Give a listen and see if it doesnt somehow it reminds of vintage Madonna…and something else which is so darn familiar and yet I cannot name it but it’s 80s new wave, that much I know! [UPDATE: Okay so it's produced by Blood Orange's Devonte Hyndes which explains the 80s synth sound, which also shows up in his song "Champagne Coast."]
As for style, it is of course off-the-charts G.O.R.G.E.O.U.S., the people, the fashion, the lovingly shot local scene shots, it’s a stunner flat out (Note to SGP: you are gonna DIE over the menswear). And then there’s the added fun of watching Solanges dance moves and seeing the connection between her and her older sister. By the end, like me, you may find yourself utterly charmed by La Hermana and rooting for her to win.

Just ’cause Solange’s status as a fashionable, Ft. Greene, Brooklyn it girl is in full bloom and paying returns, you didn’t think she was going to put down her music aspirations, now did you? Nope, in fact she is right now in Cape Town, South Africa, filming the video to an upcoming single, titled, “Losing You.” An album will follow, the third for Solange, who has song writing credits including “Get Me Bodied” and Upgrade U,” written for her sister, Beyonce. Ah, now we know why J.Crew’s Jenna Lyons has been hanging so hard with Brooklyn resident Solange Knowles, no doubt they’ve been plotting Knowles’ new role as face of the company’s Madewell format. She’s shown in the video modeling Autumn 2013 looks with a promise of “even more” to come September 4th. Over at Racked, where we spotted this, we read that the campaign is being rolled out in conjunction with the chain’s plan to add an additional 15 doors this year. Fashion savvy college girls nationwide will rejoice.
Ok, people, had no idea Solange Knowles was dating much less has a super adorable boyfriend named Alan Ferguson. And they’ve been together for multiple years!
Natural hair in the case of women of African descent when it’s not chemically straightened comes in all varieties of curl patterns, textures ect. And depending on where you are in the world, you either grew up loving it not thinking much about it or, maybe you experienced the need to wear it straight. We’re not getting into the debate of straight versus natural because that is an individual choice. What we do have to highlight is that there was a time not too long ago where very few , if any women of color were seen in the spotlight rocking their natural curly/kinky hair.
While we love the sight of Solange Knowles, Esperanza Spalding, Macy Gray to name a few , think of how many times you’ve seen a big afro, in a courtroom, on a high level executive board or on a fortune 500 CEO? All this means is that minds have to get open a lot more for these occurrences to be commonplace and, mostly there cannot be debates on texture decorum .Who made us judges of what another woman’s hair texture should look like? Move forward and style your fabulous hair the way you want. #enough.
On the red carpet for the CFDA awards, J.Crew’s Jenna Lyons and Solange Knowles continue their cool girl tour, initiated when they shared a table at the Met Gala Ball a couple weeks back.
The big winners of the night, landing the Womenswear Designer of the Year Award, were Ashley Olsen & Mary-Kate Olsen for their label The Row.
