Ad: Rihanna For Emporio Armani Spring 2012

RihannaArmani (3)

Here are some more print ad photos for Rihanna’s campaign promoting Armani jeans and lingerie. Not sure if this collection has hit retail yet. It was supposed to arrive at Macy’s in November and according to Shefinds, as of mid-December it still hadn’t arrived. As for the lingerie it appears you can buy items featured in the last campaign here

Seems odd that a giant company like Armani would put together a campaign with a major star and then basically send their target customer on a wild goose chase for product that actually only exists on paper. At least put some sort of update on your Facebook page.

Rihanna Responds To Racial Attacks

DishyDesignsRihanna 540x378 Rihanna Responds To Racial Attacks

Rihanna has had a not so friendly December. First she’s described as a “n****bitch,” by beyond ignorant Dutch magazine, Jackie:

“She has street cred, she has a ghetto ass and she has a golden throat. Rihanna, the good girl gone bad, is the ultimate n***abitch and she displays that gladly–for her that means what’s on can come off. If that means she’ll be on stage half naked, then so be it. But Dutch winters aren’t like Jamaican…”

Which the Tweeting Rihanna  had a thing or two to say about:

“There are 1000’s of Dutch girls who would love to be recognized for their contributions to your country, you could have given them an article. Instead, u paid to print one degrading an entire race! That’s your contribution to this world! To encourage segregation, to mislead the future leaders to act in the past! You put two words together, with the intent of abasement, that made no sense…”N***A BITCH”?!….Well with all respect, on behalf of my race, here are my two words for you…F**K YOU!!!”

The magazine apologized on its Facebook page:

“I hope that you all believe there was absolutely no racist motive behind the choice of words. It was stupid, it was naive to think that this was an acceptable form of slang–you hear it all the time on tv and radio, then your idea of what is normal apparently shifts–but it was especially misguided: there was no malice behind it.”

In the midst of all this, Rihanna ran into further insults while in Purtugal:

“I just met the most racist c*** EVER!!! This man said the craziest s**t abt black women called us dogs, sl*ts, we don’t look like s**t, we don’t belong in the same hotels…”

Crazy! Hopefully she gets to spend some down time with family for the holiday.

Rihanna Wears Grunge-Inspired Outfit In Concert

Rihanna1 359x540 Rihanna Wears Grunge Inspired Outfit In Concert

Rihanna’s outfit featuring a waist-tied ”shirt” for a recent performance in London, very much brings to mind Marc Jacob’s notorious Spring ‘93 grunge collection for Perry Ellis, which was so controversial it eventual led to his dismissal (who’s sorry now Perry Ellis??). My guess is that Rihanna’s skirt-shirt wasn’t designed by anyone, rather created by a savvy stylist, with the military lace-up boots Jacob’s favored updated with black, lace-up stilettos.

It’s funny that Jacob’s collection is so celebrated now because at the time it was reviled not just by fashion folks but also the punks who inspired it, including Courtney Love, who has claimed she and her husband, Kurt Cobain, burned it after Jacobs sent it to them. But oh how minds have changed. Back then, the runways and the fashion community were  viewed as the establishment, and now, street and fashion are practically joined at the hip!

After the flip see the Sonic Youth video “Sugar Kane,” which was filmed in the Perry Ellis showroom and shows pieces from the grunge collection, plus features an up and coming Chloe Sevigny.  There’s an also a 2001 excerpt from an Index magazine interview, in which Jacobs discusses the 1993 collection, described by him as his “favorite.”

Rihanna’s ‘We Found Love’ Styling Details

WeFoundLoveKomakinoTapeJacket 360x540 Rihannas We Found Love Styling Details

Rihanna’s “We Found Love” video was sharply styled by Mel Ottenberg and today Opening Ceremony provides details on the brands featured in the video that are sold at its stores. (Not such a big coincidence–Ottenberg and OC have worked together in the past.) Menswear-inspired looks are a big theme in women’s fashion these days so not surprisingly a lot of the items worn by Rihanna–starting with the Komakino ”Tape” jacket above–were made for the fellas. One item shown in the video not carried by Opening Ceremony is the Jeremy Scott acid wash skirt and cropped top she wears when she and her co-star start duking in out in his Trans Am.

On the next page, her Opening Ceremony pointed collar fitted top, Forfex zip boots, United Bamboo terrycloth sweatshirt and Jeremy Scott jean skirt (image via MTV). You can view the video here.
