French car maker Renault has made available a video ad clip, promoting its Clio model, in a campaign called “Va Va Voom.” The ad features some ultra-iconic moments from pop culture, including clips from Breakfast At Tiffany’s with Audrey Hepburn, Marlon Brandon’s famous “I could have been a contender” line from On the Waterfront, David Bowie’s “Ground Control,” and to keep things modern, Dita Von Teese stripping and even a snippet of Rihanna performing her controversial new single, “S&M.” It sounds like a very random collection, but somehow it works and is very much a visual treat.
Bits and pieces of Rihanna’s latest video for her single, “S&M,” have been leaked and given the title and lyrics, there was some concern (on my part anyway) that the full video would be a step back in her evolution away from the dark and troubled Rihanna that had fueled her look and music during the “Chris Brown” era. And while this video tells us Rihanna hasn’t abandoned her past, what’s changed is now she owns it and is having a good time poking fun at it. It goes without saying the fashion is amazing–from her giant, red curly locks (note to Allure: “scary,” really??) to the white latex suit and newsprint dress, it’s all perfectly on point and a major visual treat. [UPDATE: My partner. SGP, points out that the furs are via Prada, which, yes, I concur that they are indeed experiencing a moment. Also, Perez Hilton makes a guest appearance....and not for nothing, Rih, but was that really necessary?]
Rihanna recently posted up an image on her Twitter account of herself and Nicki Minaj while filming the video for another single from Minaj’s Pink Friday album, called “Fly,” which we’ll see later this month. Was out of the country for a minute, but I see that Foxy Brown has entered the fray (and should you click on the link, be prepared to be a little surprised by how Fox is looking these days) in the battle between Minaj and Lil Kim with a song swiping at Lil Kim. It’s not exactly a new development as the two haven’t been friends for many a year and Lil Kim especially has been very public in her disdain for Foxy.
We reported last week about Rihanna’s cover on Interview magazine and this week we’re hearing she landed the cover of British GQ for January 2011. She’s such a chameleon that the look we’re seeing here from a hair perspective is at least two styles ago. Two more images from the article after the flip.
Rihanna performed (above) last night at the American Music Awards and walked the red carpet in a lace dress by Elie Saab and shoes by Christian Louboutin. Just when we started to get a feel for her stick straight hair, she switched it up again and last night sported burgundy curls, which were color-coordinated with her nails and dresss–phew! See her red carpet look and her performance–in which she actually does a little dance routine–on the next page. Images via Justjared and Rihannadaily.

Rihanna lands the cover of Billboard magazine and chats inside about her shift from hard-edged, tough girl looks to softer, more feminine fashion, and says, ”Trends are boring. It’s boring to see everyone doing the same thing.”Via Fashioncopious and Rihannadaily.
No surprise that Rihanna is jumping all over the up-and-coming trouser trend. The woman just has that eye for what’s next. Does anyway recognize the tee? I thought it was part of Style’s 10th anniversary collection, but I don’t think so. Check out a closeup on her copper-colored (or maybe taupe?) mani on the next page, plus one a better view of her hat. Via Ultimaterihanna.
