As an inspiration to living sustainably with style, Nau invited us to partake in a day of apple picking at eco-conscious Fishskill Farm in upstate New Nork. A perfect fall escape from the City, the farm is headed by a young lad named Josh Morgenthaus, whose family has farmed the land since 1913. Aside from getting schooled on what it takes to cultivate apples, the various weather induced  hurdles to jump though, we also had an opportunity to get better acquainted with outdoor brand Nau whose commitment to sustainable style  and community building is to us above average .

Possibly weird, but also  kind of crafty was all I could think of when I spotted these in a  M.I.S.S feature on  “Jet set Beach Towels,” followed by  and could I belt it and wear it as a skirt ? You have to give Opening Ceremony its propers. It got in on the whole heritage/Navajo trend early, early on–in fact, the OC Pendleton Spring lookbook (on sale now, people) featured here is part of a partnership between the companies that’s existed for five years!

Opening Ceremony: Can you discuss any notable collaborations you have done?
Charles Bishop: We have done many collaborations; however, working with Opening Ceremony has opened our eyes, stretched our imaginations and extended our horizons. It has been fun and we look forward to future opportunities.

First re-discovered by Opening Ceremony thanks to its uber-authentic heritage credentials (140 years old AND a connection with Native Americans), Pendleton is having a moment and then some. So good for it for capitalizing via a first-time comtemporary collection, titled “The Portland Collection.” According to WWD:

The graphic Harding pattern shown on sturdy wool coats and raglan-sleeved jackets is named after a scarf the Cayuse and Umatilla tribes presented former first lady Florence Harding in 1923, while the earthy plaids on simple button-downs and tops got their origins in the same checked shirts the Beach Boys wore on the cover of their first album, “Surfin’ Safari,” in 1962.

No details yet on where it can be purchases but Pendleton itself  has an ecommerce site and its collaboration with Levi’s is sold there. Have a gander at the rest of this very handsome collection on the next page.

It’s been tough to gaze upon the men’s offerings from the Levi’s and Pendleton collaboration and not feel a little gender envy. Both companies are pretty awesome and the two together are like hot fudge and vanilla ice cream, basically a fantastic match, each bringing out the best in the other. But it turns out the ladies are not going to be left out of the fun, after all! Refinery offers up a sneak peek of two women’s items, including a cape and a denim jacket with a removeable vest. Is there more to come?? Hope so! More images after the flip.
