A rep for Kanye West has confirmed to WWD he will show again during Paris Fashion Week on March 6t at 9:30pm. Reviews for his first show were mixed (and in some cases a bit over the top in their zealous meanness), but this is what happens when a celebrity attempts to do things for which s/he is not known. We like creativity combined with fearlessness so naturally we are fans of Kanye, making us team #rooting4dw to make it in the fashion world.
The Kanye West invites to his very first runway show have gone public. October 1st is date of the big event. Folks are guessing that the collection, called Dw, is named for his dear momma, Donda West. Can’t help but wonder why he chose Paris Fashion Week to debut his line. Months ago I would have guessed London would be the spot, as he has expressed an affinity for that city in his music.
Was it convenience, timing? Then again, Paris has an established history of providing a place of refuge to black American artists. Perhaps because of this West concluded it would be less of an inferno from a press-hype perspective. Whatever the reason, I’m excited and I will not lie–I’m rooting for a show that’s as controversial, amazing and awesome as West is. Can’t wait!
Haven’t had a look see yet at Chanel’s couture presentation for Autumn, but all of Karl’s pretty besties were in attendance, getting thoroughly dressed to the nines for the show like they always do. We’ve said it before, we’ll say it again, when it comes to Louis Vuitton runway shows, keep an eye on the bags for they are the label’s money maker. The Autumn 2011 collection shown during Paris Fashion Week was overall a strong one, with what looks like four or five different themes, starting with the logo collection, which was highlighted by bags with frame silhouettes (which Miu Miu also showed). Generally frame bags have an automatic vintage feel and LV’s are no exception, though the glossy logo leather somehow gives them a gangster moll edge, which adds to their appeal. There was also a satin logo group, and a tote handbag collection, featuring rich colors like burgundy and green. Finally a fleece fur group, the kind of bag you buy when you are a very rich girl blessed with multiple LVs and are looking for something novel and different. A very solid, back-to-basics collection that should do great at retail. Many more images on the next page.
Designer Giles Deacon of Ungaro chose to make quite the bold statement with with a red talon manicure, featured on the models who walked his Paris Fashion Week Autumn 2011 runway show. These images come courtesy of nail designer Sophy Robson’s blog so I’m assuming she was in charge of nail art duties at the show.
No idea Kate Moss had been retired from the runway for seven years prior to her appearance yesterday on Marc Jacob’s Paris Fashion Week runway for Louis Vuitton Autumn 2011. Or that the day she appeared was some sort of anti-smoking day. In any case, her puffing and half-exposed bum are garnering lots of mainsream news presentation, though we’re still not certain if this is a plus for LV or not. In a way, it’s already overexposed, then again, having Kate sprinkle her magic fairy dust on brands has proven more or less to be money in the bank.
Miu Miu’s moment continues with its Autumn 2011 runway show at Paris Fashion Week, with its trademark swallows and lush mink stoles back in play. Miucca Prada’s genius is her ability to create signature patterns and graphics, which are instantly identifiable as belonging to Miu Miu (or older sis, Prada). And what the fashion plates love is that those swallows, monkeys and bananas speak to almost a secret/insider language, far elevated above that of a logo, which for some is viewed as almost crude in its directness. Chanel presented its Autumn 2011 ready-to-wear collection for Paris Fashion Week today and as always the arrivals were as entertaining as the runway presentation itself. Karl’s girls always go all out, many of them wearing Chanel head to toe or at the very least carrying a quilted bag or clutch.
