AlexanderWangJuliaChesky Alexander Wang Autumn 2011 Runway By Julia Chesky

Here’s just one image from Alexander Wang’s Autumn 2011 runway presentation, as shot by NY photographer Julia Chesky. She calls the angle “nosebleed,” but actually it gives  you a wideview look at the collection that brings out its theme of cozy chic. So perfect for the New York City girl who, sans car, spends more time than most braving the elements. See more at Chesky’s site.

NYFW: Gwen Stefani Lamb Autumn 2011

LambAutumn2011 (45)

Given Lamb designer Gwen Stefani’s own personal design vision, one would guess her fashion line would be a walk in the park, especially given how widely she is loved and admired and how there is a geniune dirth of designers addessing her look–street-inspired, sassy and smart. And while there are pieces that speak to the fashion she is best known for, her shows seem to veer wildly from season to season and  within any given collection attempts to do too much. Which could be why her line has struggled to find a home at retail. We wish that were otherwise!

Alex Wang Alla Wedge at ShopBop

Shoes like these Alex Wang “Alla” Wedges are why I love fashion. I look at them and they actually make my heart leap. They made their first apperance on Alex’s Spring 2010 runway show and now they’re coming soon to ShopBop. Dreams do really come true! And yep, tomorrow is Alex’s big day on the runway for New York Fashion Week. He shows tomorrow at 5:00 at Pier 94. Talk about a coveted ticket. I’d wager NYC’s Downtownistas would like a seat for that show at least as much as Marc Jacob’s.

Y-3 Fall 2009: Check Out the Front Row!

lupekanyemillakimreggie Y 3 Fall 2009: Check Out the Front Row!

Look at the peanut gallery in place for the Y-3 Fall 2009 show! From left-to-right: Lupe Fiasco, Kanye “Launcher of a Thousand Trends” West, Milla Jovovich, KimK and KimK’s man Reggie. They’re not pictured here, but to the right of Reggie is Ian Thorpe and borderline super model Veronica Webb. I’ve always wondered what it would feel like to be sitting among a crowd like this. Kanye and Kim are obviously at the top of their respective games these days, but I wonder if one or two of the other ones don’t sit there secretly being eaten away by imposter syndrome.

jakjilblog JaK&Jill Blog: Fashion Candids at Bryant Park

Don’t forget to make repeated visits this week to the Jak&Jill blog, where photographer Tommy Ton will be slaying us repeatedly with his excellent candids of NY Fashion Week show attendees. The above image was ripped from a post  filled with shoes that are sick, sick, SICK! You have to see the rest. Seriously, your heart will be aching.

Diane von Furstenberg Fall 2009

The plaid jackets are perfect

The plaid jackets are FIRE!

Diane is my hero. I realize that’s not a very original thought, but I just wanted to get that out there since I thought her collection was just okay and I love her too much to just flat out diss her and leave it at that. Colors and all that were hot (though that’s like saying it’s warm in the summer because her pallettes never seem to miss), but the best part of the collection were the pants (I want those one in the far right photo above with a sickness!!), but I feel let down ’cause Diane is the one I look for to bring it with dresses. And the dresses were just too boxy and not hot. As a French friend used to say to me with a French accent, “Not sexy….like a dog’s breast.” Oh well, times are tough, not every designer was born to shine when it’s all batton-the-hatches and nose-to-the-grindstone-y.

More of Diane’s collection after the jump.

Rodarte: One Last Look

The Rodarte collection as shown at NY Fashion week had my heart soaring last week and I did a post featuring some backstage photography, which can be found here. I meant to post some images from the show but got a little busy. Yes, I’m late, but the show is deserving.

^^The only issue being that there are few that have the presence of personality to pull off wearing this.

Bill Cunningham: Sky-High Heels and the Return of the Dress

16 September 2008, 17.13 | Posted in Accessories, Art, Fashion, Shoes | No comments »

If you don’t adore legendary lensman for the NY Times Bill Cunningham it’s probably only ’cause you don’t know who he is. He’s been doing his "On the Street" photography column for the paper forever, which is, hands down, the best part of the Time’s fashion coverage. This past week he did his totally on-point column on the piping-hot fashion trend of "spidery" high heels combined with short dresses. He also talks about the demise of handbags as the centerpiece of the outfit.  It’s a must-see.

Rodarte S/S 09 NY Fashion Week: Leaves ‘Em in the Dust!

In looking around at everyone’s coverage of NY Fashion Week, I stumbled across fashion photographer Sonny’s coverage of the Rodarte show. And all I could think was, wow, how’d I miss this?? The shoes, the leggings(!), the dresses(!!). I mean, you know how sometimes you see something and your eye feels a little startled and you get that butterfly feeling of excitement ’cause you know you’re seeing something that is a glimpse of what’s next? That’s how Rodarte’s collection felt. And their  leggings? Everyone else’s just officially got left in the dust.

Zac Posen S/S 09 NY Fashion Week: Purple Lipsick!

12 September 2008, 17.24 | Posted in Uncategorized | No comments »

Checking out the NY Fashion week reviews over at Style (which, btw, takes waaaay to long to load!) this morn, I noticed that Zac Posen got salamied by whoever reviewed his show. I didn’t think it was THAT bad, but oh well, points to the writer for giving her honest opinion. There’s so much fawning in this business, it’s nice when people express something less than positive. Anyway, my fave part of Zac’s show? The purple lipstick and earrings. Not a whole lot of people who can pull that look off, but against this model’s dark skin it looks pretty striking. But I don’t care what color your skin is, if your over 25 and not drop-dead gorgeous this look probably aint gonna work for ya.
