New York Times T-Magazine interviewed Nicki Minaj in its most recent issue, dressing her (above) in an Yves Saint Laurent skirt and bra and Nina Ricci shoes. Minaj is doing press around the release of her first album, “Pink Friday,” which currently sits in the No. 2 spot on the Billboard 200 chart, sandwiched between Kanye West, who owns No. 1 and Susan Boyle with the No. 3 spot. After the flip, a video interview.
For the American Music Awards red carpet, Nicki Minaj wore a design by Indian fashion designer Manish Arora, and when interviewed on the carpet and asked to describe what the dress would say if it could speak, she answered, “I am such a bad diva bitch!” Rap fans have been buzzing over Minaj’s recent direct-hit comments about Lil Kim, who Minaj has been reluctant to call about by name. Said Minaj in quite the rant, “I feel like, [Lil Kim is] going to go down in history now as a sore loser, as opposed to going down in history as the Queen.” Ouch!

In advance of her “Pink Friday” album release next week, Nicki Minaj lands the cover of Billboard magazine. She’s been interviewed a ton recently so a lot in the article is just not new, but we do get fresh details on Minaj being kicked out of Lil Wayne’s crew after she dropped out of the second half of his “I Am Music” tour in 2009. She says, ”I started to record by myself and I lost track of what I was doing and who I wanted to be. It wasn’t until I linked back up with Wayne that he gave me this speech. He said, ‘What happened? You were hot,’ and it just hurt me so much. I wanted to prove to him that I was still hot. It hurt my ego so bad that I went back with a vengeance.” Another image from the article and a Billboard video interview on the next page, in which she talks about early morning being her most productive time.

The hype keeps building for Nicki Minaj, who was recently named as one of MTV’s hottest MCs, a yearly list put together by a round table of rap experts for the past four years. Minaj placed 6th, while top ranking went to Eminem, followed by Jay Z and Kanye West. It’s a significant mention for Minaj because it marks a first time a woman has ranked within the top ten in the history of the list. Drake, who placed fourth, said about Minaj, “Feature-wise, she’s on tracks with heavyweights killing; not holding her own, but killing. She’s controlling the radio.” Minaj recentlly performed in Philadelphia, image above with more on the next page. Via Globalgrind.
