NasOluDara 396x540 Nas + Father Olu Dara For Gap Holiday 2012

Nas and his father, jazz musician Olu Dara, are featured for Gap’s “Love Comes In Every Shade” holiday ad campaign. Most know though this campaign will surely make  many more aware that Nas’s genius as a wordsmith has nature & nurture roots that originate with his pops.

Video: Nas ‘Cherry Wine’ Ft. Amy Winehouse

From Nas’ 2012 album, Life is Good, the single “Cherry Wine,” featuring Amy Winehouse receives the video treatment. The Salaam Remi track had its beginnings in a 2008 studio session that brought the two performers together.  Winehouse’s unique voice dominates the track but the video doesn’t exactly live up to the complexity the two are known for. Rather it seems overly simplistic with the male lead overcoming challengers to eventually win over the smoking hot video vixen. Imagine that.

Audio: Amy Winehouse ‘Like Smoke’

AmyWinehouseLioness Audio: Amy Winehouse Like Smoke
We mentioned the December release of Amy Winehouse’s posthumous album, The Lioness, last week, and now its looks like we’re going to get tastes of it in the days leading up to its official launch. The single featured here is “Like Smoke,” a collaboration with Nas. Besides being a nice pairing, it’s all the more compelling because of the rumored affair between the two, detailed in Winehouse’s song “Me & Mr. Jones.” Still, like any posthumous launch there will be valid criticisms about the appropriateness of releasing material sans the artist’s final stamp approval.

Video: Nas ‘Nasty’

Nasir Jones goes back to his roots literally in a song called “Nasty,” (the first single off of his upcoming tenth album) which nicely shows the flow and story-telling skills that have made him a legend in the game. The video is also fun to watch, with Nas starting out in a limo living the high life, which he sheds bit by bit as he makes his way back to the Queensbridge project that raised him. Basically it is Nas to a tee and if you even appreciate him slightly you will love this video.

I Want a Purple Fila Tracksuit!!

Ever since the U.S.-based Fila got taken over by the Korea-based Fila a year or so back, it’s been on an upward swing. Shoe design got an upgrade and it signed perfect-fit rap artist, Nasir Jones. The company is just now delving into women’s kicks (cute, albeit a tad heavy on the Freestyle inspiration), but it was this purple track jacket that stole my heart. Maybe it was the over-airconditioned halls of Project, but there’s just something so snuggly about it!

Jully Black: I am Embarrassed

31 March 2008, 16.13 | Posted in Other | No comments »

I am embarrassed that I only just found out about this chick and that’s ’cause I spotted her on PerezHilton yesterday. And that’s doubly fucked up because while looking for this video I discovered that she backs Nas on his God’s Son “Heaven” song, which I only listened to, oh like 18 billion times when it first came out. So I’m like, why oh why didn’t I dig a little to find out who was the amazing female voice in that song??? (And on another note, that is what is so damn extra about Nasir Jones–no he doesn’t produce endless product, but the songs he does create are intricate and deep and keep unfolding themselves, and looong after they are released, you can go back, listen and go, “Oh wow…I didn’t hear that the first go round.)

Anyway, the name of this song is “Seven Day Fool,” and the reason that it matters that Ms. Black is singing it is ’cause you only have to look in this female’s eyes for two seconds to know that life has tricked her more times than her broken hard dares to admit and thus she truely is NOBODY’S fool, but you know how it goes, a girl can dream, can’t she?
