Marc Jacob: Bubble Dress w/ a Twist of Lemon

15 August 2008, 21.54 | Posted in Fashion, Stores | No comments »

Ladies love Marc because he does the bubble dress that everyone else is doing, but adds two or three details that make it….

MJNeonBubbleNetAPorter Marc Jacob: Bubble Dress w/ a Twist of Lemon

….just about 14 ounces cooler than every other offering on the block. (Warning note: This one is only for the very young and sexy. Anyone else, you’re taking a chance of being on the receiving end of some serious mockery.)

Available at Net-A-Porter.com (which, again, what’s with using the cheap-Conway-looking, plastic mannequin to model a high fashion dress–ugh!)

Marc Jacobs Bag @ ShopBop: Small-Minded

27 May 2008, 18.05 | Posted in Accessories, Fashion, Shoes, Stores | No comments »

An interview with Pat Field was featured on PerezHilton exclusively yesterday. Given her considerable talents, it was pretty interesting to listen to her breakdown her style choices for the Sex & the City movie. One thing she mentioned was a move toward smaller bags.

This Marc Jacobs bag recently added to ShopBop sure does speak to the trend (for scale reference, the zipper is seven inches long):

^^Small bag that packs a huge strap!

(On another note, I feel like such utter crap today. I was out in the sun and fresh air for a whole three days and after five months of grey skies and 40-degree weather, I do believe my body is suffering from a state of shock!)

BlackGirlintheCity: It Aint Over ‘Til It’s Over!”

20 April 2008, 02.34 | Posted in Books, Other | No comments »

BlackGirlintheCity is a site you visit when you’ve done all the pretty pictures and you find yourself hankering for something a little more substantial. Words that’ll actually make you think, ya know??

I linked to her hysterical recount of an encounter with a Marc-Jacobs-bag-owning idiot not long ago, but the story I’m linking to here is a little different. In it, she talks about shedding an ex. Like any good writer, she writes in layers and while she reveals what she believes are her own lessons, there’s plenty of space between the lines for us to draw our OWN conclusions.

Here’s an excerpt:

My ex has finally decided to move on.  Good for effing him!  Lol.  We were the best of friends with a strong history until true feelings got involved.  Its funny how people tend to be on their worse behavior when falling or being in love.

BlackGirlOverYou BlackGirlintheCity: It Aint Over Til Its Over!

^^Dear BlackGirl: He so aint over you!

And as for her comment on Hillary, she said it, not me! And though I gave up using the word bitch as a 2008 resolution, I hafta admit Hill is pushing me to the damn edge!

Still missing you!

Marc Jacobs = Tony Montana??

10 April 2008, 17.48 | Posted in Other | No comments »

I’m sorry ’cause I know this is really juvenile and has nothing to do with anything, but ever since I did that post about Murakami at the Brooklyn Museum, I can’t stop obsessing about how Marc Jacobs’ look that night.

AnnaWintour Marc Jacobs = Tony Montana??

^^There’s La Diabla on the left and beautiful mess Marc on the right….and I defy you to deny his resemblence to….

Scarface movie 02 Marc Jacobs = Tony Montana??

^^Tony Montana!

Change Marc’s earrings with Tony’s gold chains and it’s a done deal. I dare you to tell me I’m lying!

The Devil Went Down to Brooklyn!!! OMG!

04 April 2008, 16.04 | Posted in Art | No comments »

The opening for the Murakami show at Brooklyn Museum was last night and looky-loo and who was there! None other than the devil herself!!

AnnaWintour The Devil Went Down to Brooklyn!!! OMG!

^^She probably helicoptored in and landed on the roof of the museum to avoid driving through the streets of Brooklyn so she wouldn’t have to hurt her eyes gazing upon humans—gasp!!–who don’t make a gazillion dollars/year. That’s Marc on the right of course. He did another bag collabo with Murakami and it launched in conjunction with opening night.

And if you weren’t there, don’t feel bad (even though it would have been fun to see Kanye perform no matter what). Look at the pictures after the fold and you’ll see that launch night parties at museums are filled with boring-ass people who have the social skills of hamsters. I’m NOT lying. Seriously.

I Hate These Shoes

01 April 2008, 15.53 | Posted in Shoes | No comments »

I’m considering just giving up and being in a foul mood today. Usually I fight surly feelings, but dammit, if you, like me, like in New York, you look outside your window it’s hard NOT to be annoyed. Yet another gloomy, sort of cold day, which would be okay, except that this is about the 180th day in a row that we’ve had this weather! C’mon Ma Nature, give us a break! Or at least a peak at the sun that lasts for more than two hours!

On that craptastic note, there are two designer shoe styles this “spring” that have been getting tons of editorial press. I’ve been hemming and hawing on my feelings for them, but recently I made a decision to just flat out hate them. It’s news to note ’cause normally I like both of these designers and also, I’m not quick to hate. There’s stuff I love and then there’s all the other shoes that I couldn’t care less about.

Here they are, as featured in the last issue of Elle magazine (which I still love):

ShoesIHate.jpg I Hate These Shoes

^^Ignore the green shoe. I don’t who it’s by and I don’t care. First up, the weirdo heel shoe, No. 3, by Marc Jacobs. It just looks dumb and it seems like it’s being different just to be different. Like there’s no substance or thought behind it. Part of it I guess is I’ve never been a fan of whimsy when it comes to fashion. Everything in its place and a place for everything and don’t try and put pom-poms on the hem of a dress and think it’s cute ’cause everyone knows the only place they look right is on a piece of furniture. Same with this heel–put it where it belongs! And then the Giuseppe Zanotti shoe in the back. At first I thought I liked it, but the more I looked at it the less I did. I’m sorry, but even with the cut out, it’s too clunky and difficult looking, and it keeps reminding me of a comedy I once saw, featuring a pimp whose platforms contained a mini-aquarium, complete with goldfish. Smack some plexi-glass on Guiseppe’s shoes, throw some fish in there and you’d have the same deal.

Bitterly yours,

You AND the MJ Bag Need to Back the Eff UP!

20 March 2008, 01.04 | Posted in Uncategorized | No comments »

I’m such a lightweight. All day today I’ve been at minimal operating capacity ’cause I had a whole three glasses of wine last night. At our visit to Reebok today, I made Samia do all the heavy lifting ’cause I couldn’t even find the heart to take my camera all the way out my bag, point the lens at the shoes and push the button. Weak. I know.

Anyway, since I don’t have any images to post, I figured I could at least highlight another blogger, who actually was on top of her game today. And that would be Black Girl in the City, (who, btw, we would love to give links love to if David would give us even half the shit we’ve been begging for for over a year). Today she had a hilarious post on a recent dust up in a movie theater. I’m not going to post the whole story, but here’s a nice taste….then you can go to her site and read the rest!

Her almost alien looking oval face was flustered as the manager was trying to explain to her why they couldn’t give her $10 in quarters.  But forget all that.  My main concern:  her Marc Jacobs bag was right under the butter…that I needed….so I could get on my way to the Dr. Seuss experience (on time).

I smiled and politely said, “Excuse me.” She shifted her eyes toward me and never stopped blabbing to the manager about whatever she was sayin.  I paused before politely but a little more aggressively saying, “Ma’m, excuse me.”  A command that this time could not be ignored.  When she looked at me I motioned for her to move your purse so I can get my phukin butter please?  Dag! This woman puts her stop sign hand in full effect saying, “You need to wait just a minute.” Straight gangster!

This story makes me think two things. First, that the non-stop, drama that is Marc Jacob’s life could possible be manifesting itself in his merchandise and the people who purchase it, and second, how rich AND stupid are you that you would leave such an expensive bag that close to a container that’s not only full of grease, but no doubt spraying it on every surface within ten yards as well?? I’m telling you, money is wasted on the wealthy.

Nighty-night!

Murakami @ The Brooklyn Museum

13 March 2008, 21.17 | Posted in Uncategorized | No comments »

Murakami is coming to the Brooklyn Museum. His exhibit will be parked there from April 5 through July 13. Those of you who know these things know that the people watching on opening night might actually be juicier than the exhibit itself.

BrooklynMuseum Murakami @ The Brooklyn Museum

It doesn’t say this on the museum’s site, but in a category we’ll file this under Combined Art & Commerce Grossness Epitomized, I read on Agenda that this exhibit is being done in conjunction with another Murakami  Jacobs/LouisV collabo. ‘Member last week how we asked: “On the entire planet is there a color, collaboration or treatment that could be applied to a bag covered with LV logos that would inspire you to think, “Damn–THAT bag makes me wish I had a sugar daddy!!”? The answer is still a very definite NOPE!

With warmest regards from the BK,

Clutches at ShopBop

05 March 2008, 18.57 | Posted in Fashion, Stores | No comments »

Speaking of clutches, ShopBop is highlighting them as a must-have for spring 2008. This one, which is “coming soon” to the site, is tasty. It can fit all your crap for day and makes an above-average transition to evening. And getting that extra mileage is good ’cause it’s Marc Jacobs and it aint gonna come cheap!

^^Out with quilting and other busy details and in with toned-down, chic and classic looks.

I wouldn’t mind owning this bag AT ALL.
