Marc By Marc Jacobs Spring 2011 Runway Video

16 September 2010, 12.31 | Posted in Fashion Week, Runway Show | No comments »

Playing a little catch-up here and at the very least posting video from some of the NY Fashion Week shows we either didn’t get to and wished we could or are obsessed with and can’t stop posting about.

After the flip is the Marc Jacobs, which was pretty much perfect. Gorgeous, wearable, yet still forward garments presented in a manner befitting their elegance. [UPDATE: We have a new contributor, Zorra Jan Khan, who had this to add about the Marc Jacobs collection: "Marc Jacobs Spring 2011 collection is big, bright and beautiful! This 70s-inspired collection consists of oranges, yellows, stripes and block colours. The waistbands are high and the hems stop mid-calf, a popular choice on the catwalks this season. Jumpsuits, halter neck dresses, military style blouses and shorts were teamed with sky high wedges, whilst the hair is over-the-top volumized and the make-up was kept neutral apart from a splash of orange on the lips--HOT!"]

Making of Louis Vuitton Autumn Ad Campain

Adorable-as-ever Marc Jacobs talks about the theme for Louis Vuitton’s Autumn ad campaign, and I know this sounds stupid, but one of the most interesting parts is when he catches himself calling the models “girls” and quickly corrects himself and says, “women.” The reference to models as girls is very much industry-speak so it’s striking that he makes the change….a reflection of consciousness or branding in-step with the line’s theme of a curvier and more womanly female?

CFDA Arrivals: Lara, Ana, DVF, Gwyneth, SJP, Iman….

LaraStone1 CFDA Arrivals: Lara, Ana, DVF, Gwyneth, SJP, Iman....

Arrivals at CFDA were looking phenomenal. Across the board it was hard to find anyone who looked overly predictable or just flat-out wrong. Surely this is in large part because it’s a fashion event and many of the attendess are experts (designers, models, stylists), but perhaps we’re seeing signs of the design focal point moving away from shoes and shifting to dresses and accessories (specifically necklaces), making for a visually more compelling red carpet image. One can hope anyway. Dress length ranged from very short to trains, but white played against black and flowerful prints were two big color trends. Sheen was also a theme, as was relaxed fabrics. HighSnobette favorites included Allison Pill, Hana Soukupova, DVF and Lara Stone (but only because she is currently in the can-do-no-wrong category).

Many more looks after the flip.

Louis Vuitton Bond St. Event: Celeb City!

26 May 2010, 15.37 | Posted in Uncategorized | 3 comments »

The celebs and celebutantes were out in full force for the opening of a Louis Vuitton on Bond Street in London yesterday. And boy-oh-boy were folks DRESSED! Lots of short dresses and high heels, but nothing too outrageous or cutting edge. This is LV after all! The image on this page features runway model Natalia Vodianova and photographer Patrick Demarchelier. Love her dress and overall look, which speaks to my secret love affair with Russian style….slightly over the top and flashy yet still chic.

After the flip are WireImages of Gwyneth Paltrow, Kirsten Dunst, Carine Roitfeld, Thandie Newton and many more. Marc of course was there but without his Brazilian bombshell, Lorenzo Martone, which makes me think the rumors of their break-up are sad but true : (

MarcJacobs1 SoHo Storefronts: Marc Jacobs & Prada

This Marc Jacobs storefront shot was taken on Thursday of last week at the Mercer Street store in SoHo. It’s a cute bag made snazzy by the unique fringe detail.

On the flip, images from the Prada store on Broadway, also in SoHo. (If you have any NYC storefront requests….let us know. Maybe we can fulfill them!)

CFDA Fashion Awards Announced

 CFDA Fashion Awards Announced

The CFDA Fashion Award nominees were announced last night. The event took place at CFDA President Diane Von Furstenberg’s studio in the Meat Packing District. Already we know there’s going to be a Special Tribute Award for Alexander McQueen and Chris Bailey of Burberry will receive the International Award, plus Iman wins the Fashion Icon Award and Michael Kors is the recipient of the Jeffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award (can he get a little something extra for also being the break-out comic of Project Runway??).

I’ll let you go to the link to see details, but the hottest and heaviest competition will be between Marc and Alex for the Womenswear Designer of the Year Award. Marc has won the award twice but not since 1997. Still, my money is on Alex, everyone’s current darling. Which leads one to wonder which collection will be the first one that causes his adoring masses to turn on him. Remember Marc and his grunge collection back in the ’90s? That shit was crazy! Alex can only pray to have such a divine fall from grace.

BlakeetLaraStone Interview Magazine: Lara Stone X Marc J.

The incredibly sumptuous Lara Stone, the model of the moment, was interviewed by Marc Jacobs for the March issue of Interview magazine. MJ is not only an amazing designer, but he also asks good questions! What can’t this man do?? Lara was photographed by Marcus Piggot for Interview, but the source for this image is Blackeett.

Marc Jacobs: Celeb-Free Zone…Sort of

Marc Jacobs: Celeb Free Zone...Sort of

From the looks of the front row for Marc Jacobs Fall 2010 show, Marc kept good on his promise to de-celebritize his show. Doesn’t mean, however, mean that there weren’t plenty of the industry’s heaviest hittest there. Above we see Marc’s Brazilian bombshell boyfriend (whose interview in BUTT magazine is making him infamous if not famous), Lorenzo Martone, Vogue’s behind-the-scenes genius, Grace Coddington and the father of street photography, Bill Cunningham.

After the flip, Bergdorf Goodman buyer, Roopal Patel, in an amazing blouse and Tavi Gevinson, the 13-year old blogger that’s infuriating the fashion world. Plus, the head designer in charge doing a pretty good version of himself as Tom Ford.

All images Style.

Marc Jacobs Fall 2010: Long Dresses

Marc Jacobs Fall 2010: Long Dresses

Next in line after the fur bags were the long dresses, detailed with fur collars. The fabric and cut of the dress are very casual and easy but with the fur, oh so chic. Overall the collection was very calm. You can see Marc is in a happy place in his life, which is nice to see. Style quotes him as saying about the collection, “There’s so much striving for newness now that newness feels less new,” which, fair enough…sometimes it’s time to take a breather and refine rather than always reaching for the next summit. Still, one has to wonder if all the chat about Alexanger Wang being the “new” Marc doesn’t light some sort of fire under his behind. In any competetive field, after all, you never want to feel too safe.

Images from Style. More after the flip, including some pretty neat vinyl raincoats.
