Ruffian 540x403 Ruffian Nail Art: Spring 2012

Went and got a new set of nails by my girl Maki the other day and it turns out she was on the nail art team–as led by nail artist Yuna Park–for the Ruffian Spring 2012 show and had pics from the show. Ruffian was one of the first runway designers to embrace nail art in a big way and the half moon shown here has become something of a trademark for the designer, with some even referring to the design as the Ruffian. Each season the designis updated and this year it featured bright colors and stripes, reflecting the sporty themes for the label’s Spring 2012 presentation.

MakiFeatherManicure 540x403 Makis Feather Nail Art

Maki, THE woman as far I’m concerned when it comes to nail art, was away for some months so I essentially spent the summer wandering from salon to salon like a lost child in the desert trying to cobble together decent nail art stories. On this page you’re seeeing her latest work, a “feather” mani which, yes, is highlighted by an embedded feather on five nails plus stone work. It’s kind of elegant, no? Yet still decadent, which…..heart all a flutter–you know how when you first get a mani and can’t stop looking at it and you never want it to fade or go away? I’m so there.

If you’re in NYC and want to get your nails Done for Fashion Week, click after the flip for her email

Our friends at M.I.S.S. share our views on whether or not nail charms are “too old school,” with the answer being a definitive hell no! Above is a nail art image replete with charms, courtesy of M.I.S.S. poster Atriskliz. On the next page, take a look at the charming nail art we posted a while back by HS favorite N.Y. manicurist Maki (who is available for appointments if you live in New York: cutiemaki@hotmail.com)

Two-Tone Talon Nails By Valley’s Maki

nails 002

Valley Nails and especially nail artist Maki can easily become addictive. That’s just not me talking, I hear it all the time chatting with clients sitting in adjacent seats. While Maki was hooking me up with the two-tone manicure featured above (first spotted on Maki a couple weeks back, her “ex-nails” as she describes them), the woman next to me was talking about how she was hooked on gels. It’s like co-owner Nina Werman was saying, you can be out casually in a pair of sweats, but  flash your nails and you’re game is still completely on. Bottom line, there a lot of fun to look at. One more look at the mani after the flip.
