VogueParisNovember2012 416x540 Werbowy, Seymour & Hutton Paris Vogue November 2012

Models Daria Werbowy, Stephanie Seymour and Lauren Hutton photographed by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin for Paris Vogue’s November 2012 issue. Themed around beauty, according to press on the issue and the cover:

“Deciphering the secrets behind the art of aging gracefully, the beauty exclusive focuses on the hottest trends, no matter the age, incarnated by top models.”

Magazines featuring compelling covers with more than one model are rare and this one perhaps brings to the forefront why–everyone photographs differently and looks better/worse depending on the side of the face exposed, lighting, etc. So when you attempt to apply the same lighting and make up across the board, everyone is compromised, an issue that’s heightened when the models are different ages.

In the case of this cover,  Werbowy at 29 looks her age but not that much younger than Seymour, who is said to be 44 (in another post on Seymour a reader went off on that supposed fact) and yet somehow seems to be showing the fewest lines of all three. Good ole Lauren (Wiki tells me 68) looks grand-dame great as always but putting her next to the lineless Seymour creates a great big distraction and the cover comes off feeling like a Real Housewives gawkfest rather than a thing of beauty.

Not sure if that’s what editor Emmanuelle Alt was going for but that’s what she got.

TomFordBeyonce Beyonce Walks Super Exclusive Tom Ford Show

Tom Ford relaunched his name as a woman’s wear designer with a Spring 2011 runway show featuring Beyonce, Julianne Moore, Lauren Hutton, Rita Wilson, Daphne Guinness, Farida Khelfa, as well as models Amber Valletta and Stella Tennant. According to Cathy Horyn of the NY Times, the show was held in Ford’s Madison Avenue men’s store and was limited to about 100 editors, who all must have been in heaven to be transported back to a world before the barbarians, i.e. bloggers, crossed the barriers. No images were released (the one on this page is Beyonce arriving), which in addition to protecting Ford’s ideas, certainly creates mystique, and though none will be released until January, one has to bet they will be leaked here and there as needed to create buzz. One more pic of Solange Knowles, wearing a leopard print turban, after the flip. UPDATE: A blurry image showing the shimmery top-half of Beyonce’s dress added.
