The Telegraph gives us a look at the exclusive Net-a-Porter Karl Collection set to lauch simultaneously in Berlin, London, New York, Paris and Sydney. More images on the flip, and locations here.
Chanel’s runway show for its couture Spring 2012 show took place today in a simulated plane, complete with a serving cart with drinks, speaking to a theme of blue skies and flying high–hair that is. Clever that Karl! And hmm, who might THAT be sitting front and right, natch, in the major upgrade seat….If you’d like, watch the finale here replete with what sounds like circus music, courtesy of Grazia.
This reminds me of Colette’s collaboration with Gap. A great look for Gap that did not a whit for Colette. And in Lagerfeld’s case given his growing rep for being overly collabo-happy with a bunch of makes-no-sense, non-luxury brands it should be viewed as a net-net negative.
Image above shows one look from the collabo, featured in Vogue. Via Fashionista.
W magazine zones in on the intersection between fashion and music in a photo shoot that matches currently hot designers with the same from the pop music world. This one of Versace Donatell with MIA is by far the best. See Kanye with the Rodarte sisters, Esperanza Spalding with Francisco Costa of Calvin Klein and Janelle Monae with Karl Lagerfeld.
Chanel showed its Resort 2011/2012 collection yesterday and the attendees of course included plenty of beauties, highlighted by Chanel handbag rep, Blake Lively. Karl Lagerfeld has received a lot of criticism for choosing the young actress to front Chanel, but the truth is, since the signing she is looking a lot slicker and has clearly benefited from Lagerfeld’s magic touch (though it looks like her red hair dye job was temporary ’cause it’s fading fast!). Still, if she doesn’t bring anything of substance to the plate beyond “Gossip Girl,” her days are going to be numbered as a starlette.
On the next page, Alexa Chung debuts two-tone hair, plus Clemence Poesy, Anna Mouglalis, Rachel Bilson, Karl Lagerfeld, Laura Bailey, Vanessa Paradis and Poppy Delevingne.
We mentioned that Karl Lagerfeld showed the Magnum Ice Cream commercial he dircted at the Tribeca Film festival and here it is in full. It features Rachel Bilson and Baptiste Giabiconi and like most of Lagerfeld’s film-related efforts comes across as a fashion parody a la Zoolander. Which is really quite amazing given his talent as it applies to so many other platforms. Really, it’s akin to Madonna, who as much as she accomplished as a singer and dancer, fell completely flat every time she stepped before the camera and attempted to act. The truth is though, not every creative outlet is for everyone.
There have been a number of Tribeca Film Festival events this past week in New York, and quite a few celebrities have been in attendance, ranging from fashion heavy hitters like Anna Wintour and Karl Lagerfeld (who showed a Magnum Ice Cream commerical he directed, featuring Rachel Bilson) to professional party attenders and names from days gone by like Susanna Hoffs and Debbi Peterson of the Bangles. We culled through the images and picked our faves–some we know well and others we are clueless on, but whatever, their fashion choices caught our eye and a lot of the time that is all that matters. That’s Ashley and MK above of course–a little prezzy for SGP, who is an admirer of their styles choices, and as it happens in this instance we were in agreement.
More on the next page, including Leigh Lezark, Lauren Hutten, Zoe Karvitz, Susanna Hoffs & Debbi Peterson, Crystal Renn, Christy Turlington, Rachel Bilson, Christy Turlington, Karolina Kurkova, Jay Choi, Sky Ferreira and a few more.
Beautiful quality and workmanship…..nobody does mean and vicious better than Fendi. Designer Karl Lagerfeld may receive far more recognition for his Chanel bags, but looking at his bag designs for Fendi, one gets the feeling this label is his secret favorite, or at least the one that allows him to most express the devil within. “I love the idea and as everybody knows I drink Diet Coke and nothing else, night and day…..For me it was pure pleasure to do this campaign for people I like, for a product I love.”
Karl Lagerfeld hosted a coming out party in Paris for his latest collaboration with Coca-Cola Light. It featured a bunch of Lagerfeld look-a-likes, and a bevvy of beautiful models and actresses. Singer Uffie is shown above. We spoke yesterday about the great exchanges that can come from collaborations, but this one has always rubbed the wrong way. It’s meaning is simply lost on me–no offense to the diet soda addicts in the crowd!
After the flip, images of Lagerfeld, plus more of Uffie (including a close up on her shoes), Lily Cole, Audrey Marnay, Lou Lesage, Beatrice Rosen and Nicole Trunfio.
