Among other topics Jenna Lyons discusses how blog culture has changed the culture of style and how it’s examined……”before it was just magazines.”

JennaLyons 392x540 Jenna Lyons Explains Met Ball Skirt + Denim Jacket

The most adored women in fashion, J.Crew big boss, Jenna Lyons, explains on the J.Crew blog her Met Ball outfit–a bright pink skirt and denim jacket–which was viewed by the blogosphere as a little controversial because of the jacket. (Anyone other than Lyons and it would have been viewed as a LOT controversial…just saying.) Btw, that guy with her above is head women’s designer Tom Mora, who wore J.Crew’s Ludlow tuxedo. Here’s what she says about the skirt:

“I felt I had to do something in shocking pink because that’s what Schiaparelli is known for. I sketched the design for this skirt on the back of a piece of paper during a meeting one day about two weeks before the ball. Honda, our patternmaker, draped and stitched the satin right here in the office.”

The jacket:

“I didn’t want to wear duchesse silk satin with something sparkly or pearls. I am who I am—so I took it down a notch with denim. We pulled a J.Crew jean jacket and then had it fit and re-tailored to raise the waistband. I’m also not really wearing a shirt underneath—the collar and cuffs were custom-made by my custom shirtmaker and were stitched into the jacket.”

And even her bag and its contents:

“I carried a J.Crew clutch (the contents of which included reading glasses, phone, keys, $20, license and credit card—and a tube of Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar).”

The aspect of the collar and cuffs custom stitched into the jacket is what slays me. That’s where the jean jacket goes up a level from normal folks. Hardly an original thought, but..luv her.

JCrewJennaLyons 2 Images of J.Crews Jenna Lyons Townhouse Now For Sale

Curbed brings us all the details on J.Crew’s Jenna Lyon’s townhouse sale. It might not normally be much of a big deal but it comes on the tail of the break-up with her husband and hook up with a woman, AND the interior is amazing and beautiful.

One thing you know if you spend any time in Brooklyn is that brownstone or townhouses are very charming, yes, but they’re also narrow to what feels like the extreme by modern-day standards. What’s so awesome about Lyon’s place is what an amazing job she did working around that factor, making it almost a non-issue. For instance check out the bright walls, narrow dining room table and armless chair and sofa, all of which open up the space.

J.Crew’s Jenna Lyons on Oprah

JCrewJenna J.Crews Jenna Lyons on Oprah

As part of a series on dream jobs, Oprah checked in with J.Crew’s Exectuive Creative Director, Jenna Lyons, to see what she gets up to in a day. I’m mad that I couldn’t imbed the video, but in the capture above Jenna explains her shoe collection. On the next page, there’s also an image capture of Jenna in her sparkle harem pants. On the Oprah video, her life does indeed seem pretty idylic (supportive husband + adorable 3-year old), but still, J.Crew is a public company so the non-stop feeling of a piano hanging over your head has to pretty much always be there. Pressure baby, not everyone can handle it.

J.Crew x Fenton/Fallon ‘Carrington’ Necklaces

 J.Crew x Fenton/Fallon Carrington Necklaces

Any serious fashion observer in NYC cannot ignore that J.Crew has been gaining serious ground as a brand and as a retailer with the success of their smaller men’s stores and of Madewell. The women’s J.crew line however  although fueled by The First Lady’s flawless style  has not fully gained the same momentum as the other divisions.

The line has been rediscovered by  the women who wore high end classy fashion, became alot more fun and playful contrasting high and low, dressy and casual but still a little too pricey  in our opinion . If this collabo with  Dana Loren’s Fenton -Fallon is a sign of what is to come, looks like  J.Crew women’s “hot” factor could be on its way . Don’t sleep on Jenna Lyons! Another necklace on the flip. Available here.
