It’s now surfacing that Rocawear laid off just about half its staff last week, firing 28 of 56 workers. This action is being pinned on Jay Z, who along with Dame Dash founded the brand in 1999, but the company is now owned by Iconix, which purchased it in 2007 for $204 million. Jay is still invested in the brand but his contract to promote it has expired.

No one can be really shocked that this company has fallen on tough times. Urban as an apparel category is beyond the death-spiral phase and while this was a big cut in staff, there have probably been smaller cuts made over the past three years. Via Nypost.

Oh my–someone already has managed to wrap Daddy around her wee finger. Listen above for Jay Z’s song for his new daughter, Blue Ivy, called “Glory.” Produced by Pharrell and featuring details on where the baby was conceived plus alluding to a past miscarriage and difficulties conceiving, the tune also includes baby noises which we have to assume belong to Blue. Very sweet.

Somewhere in the building above, Lenox Hill Hospital, located in the Upper East Side of Manhattan, Beyonce is hanging out with her new baby girl, whose name is Blue Ivy Carter (as confirmed by Gwyneth Paltrow on Twitter). The middle name we have to guess is a shout out to Bee’s special number, four, with Ivy a phonetic stand in for roman numeral IV. And numeorlogically speaking 01/07/2012 also adds up to 4 and supposedly it was a scheduled c-section so….. maybe a coincidence but maybe not. Anyway, good for the Carters and congrats to all who recently have brought new babies into the world, all equally fab in our opinion.

During a live performance of the song “I Was Here,” Beyonce shows a video highlighting big moments in her life and includes some quick looks at the dress she wore when she wedded Sean Carter in 2008. Some other moments include her performing with Michael Jackson, Prince, Tina Turner, not to mention rubbing shoulders with Nelson Mandela and Oprah but somehow my fave spots are her interactions with that husband of hers–such a cute couple, can’t help but hope that it all works out.

Victoria’s Secret runway show took place last night and the list of entertainers who performed was impressive: Nicki Minaj (above), Kanye West (who is obvs LIVING in those black leather pants–lol such a dude thing to do, he probably has 20 pairs), Adam Levine and the king himself, Jay Z.  See the fellas on the next page.

I’m liking Beyonce’s pregger’s style choices. She’s still working the sky-high heels, but the rest of her outfit has that relaxed NYC chic look that coordinates nicely with Jay’s Brooklyn boy gone Manhattan style. On the next page, check him throwing her some very adorable p.d.a.

In the Spike Jonze directed video of the first single, “Otis,” from their Watch The Thrown album, Jay and Kanye keep it no frills, from their white tees and jeans to a stripped-down Maybach. In the vid they’re seeming like they don’t don’t have a care in the world, but ehh, somehow I’m not convinced.  Are you?

A lot of hype is being built around Watch The Throne, a soon-to-be released record from Jay-Z and Kanye West, available for preorder August 2nd. Part of the push includes recording session images, with the one featured here one of the more intriguing of the bunch. Lots of body language going down between Jay and Bee.
