Australian-born Iggy Azalea releases her latest video titled, “Work.” It’s inspired by the film Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, a movie that featured drag queens whose alienation Azaelia said she could relate to growing up in Australia.

IggyAzaleaFlavor 400x540 Iggy Azalea For Flavor Magazine September 2012

Iggy Azalea is featured on dual covers for Flavor magazine’s issue for September 2012. On the one above, she is declared “Le Nouveau Visage Du Hip-Hop” (translation: the new face of hip hop), and on the second “La Femme Fatale Du Hip-Hop,” (no translation needed!).  Interesting that she’s flashing her “Live, Love ASAP” tattoo. Not sure those two could still be together given how “busy” he seems to be these days.

Video: Iggy Azalea Ft. T.I. ‘Murda Bizness’ In Studio Session

09 April 2012, 19.18 | Posted in Music | 1 comment »

Have a look at Iggy Azalea and T.I. performing ”Murda Bizness” in a studio session, interesting if only because her hair is free of its usual pony tail. And yes she flips  it with the best of white girls. While her looks are hypnotizing, we’re still not all the way sold on how she projects but have to admit she sounds less shouty in studio than live.

We see over at NicoleBitchie that rap artist Eve isn’t all the way bought in either, stating, “I can’t really f-ck with her music, but her look is crazy. I just can’t believe [her music].” That being said, the readers at NB mostly gave her live Atlanta performance a thumbs up; gotta luv the open-mindedness this upcoming generation often displays. I can’t see a similarly supportive dialog occurring around a white female rapper even five years ago.

ASAP Rocky Chats On Music, Alexander Wang, Azaelia, Iggy Etc.

27 March 2012, 20.36 | Posted in Music | No comments »

ASAP Rocky covers a ton of ground in an interview in which he chats about his upcoming single, “Pain,” why it’s not yet time for him to work with Drake (”a kind-hearted kid”), being told to keep your eye on the prize by Kanye, and working with Alexander Wang(!) on the styling for his upcoming video “Cristal.”

He then goes on to discuss how Azaelia Banks might be mad at his crew, and his belief it was “petty” and a “low blow” for Banks to pick on Iggy Azalea over her runaway slavemaster lyrics because “she’s not a racist–trust me” (rep for your woman, Rock!). He finishes by describing his upcoming album as “epic,” “great” and “futuristic.”

Iggy Azalea For Complex Magazine

Iggy4Complex (3)

Very gorgeous, charismatic, bold young woman; the potential for her to have her moment in the rap world is there. Thing is, she makes the common mistake of putting on that bad-girl-from-the-hood intonation which takes away from her authenticity. In other words, she’s selling but we’re not buying. Via Complex.

XXL Explains ‘Freshmen 10′ Cover And ASAP Absence

06 March 2012, 18.11 | Posted in Magazines, Music | No comments »

Editors for XXL visit radio station Hot 97 and explain some of the more controversial feedback resulting from the artists chosen for the magazines recent “Freshman 10″ cover. It’s been documented that Harlem rap artist ASAP Rocky opted out, but the Hot 97 DJs make the valid argument that it shouldn’t have been his choice and thus would have worked better as an article rather than a cover story. The editors also explain that Iggy Azalea–probably the most controversial of the 10 chosen, gained her spot through a reader vote.
