BrooklynBridge 540x356 Update From New York #Sandy

Hi everyone, I just wanted to update from HighSnobette headquarters in Brooklyn where myself and SGP are located. In our corner of the borough we were oh-so fortunate in that we hung on to electricity throughout the storm. Our building shook on Monday night, the lights flickered, it was scary as hell, but in the end we were fine. Thanks so much to all of you, friends and acquaintences, from outside the City and within who directed concern or prayers our way….I know they helped our hearts and I do believe they allayed some of the City’s tragedies, which there were and continue to be plenty of, with the sounds of sirens around us seemingly endless. Hopefully all you, our readers, are okay.

Our subway (the Q) is still out and we know from receiving emails from libraries and places of work that lots of people are still without electricity with the worst outages in lower Manhattan. The photo (via Curbed) above sort of says it all–it’s the Brooklyn Bridge and it’s lit only three-quarters with the Brooklyn side okay while Manhattan remains dark. Con Ed says most in NYC should have service back by Saturday, but yea, I think all of us here believe we’re in this together and won’t feel right until the lights are back on for everyone.  And of course our hearts go out to those who have suffered heartbreaking losses. You are in our prayers. –LAS.
