BOTB (10)

Hellz Launches New Label: Belle Of The Brawl!

30 August 2011, 15.57 | Posted in Trade Show | No comments »

HBBelleOfTheBall 540x405 Hellz Launches New Label: Belle Of The Brawl!

Here’s a lil’ sneak peak of Belle of the Brawl, a freshly-launched label that made its debut at Project, courtesy of the great folks at Hellz. What you’re spying is the top half of a cropped bra top that’s part of a very awesome cut and sewn collection that feels fun and light yet still has a distinct design edge. And no, this does not mean Hellz goes away–the phenomenal collabos and special projects will continue, rather the new label signals designer Lanie B’s own expanded experience and a desire to reflect that with more grown designs. We love the collection AND seeing women making bold moves so we couldn’t be more excited.

Medievel x Vans x Hellz ‘Fvckboutins’

MedievelVansHellz (2)

These Vans Hadley Lo kicks were customized with studs and other details by Medievel just for Hellz head designer, Lanie Alabanza. Post-makeover, the shoes have been deemed “Fvckboutin” (inspired obvs to some degree by Louboutins’s studded sneakers)  and they are about as sick as a shoe can be.

MOB & Hellz Noted In Top 50 Streetwear Brands List

MOBComplex 540x348 MOB & Hellz Noted In Top 50 Streetwear Brands List

Given that the world of streetwear is the ultimate hostile work environment for women, we’re loving that Married to the Mob (No. 17) and Hellz (No. 20) were listed by The Hundreds’ designer, Bobby Hundreds, in his “The 50 Greatest Streetwear Brands Of All Time” list, compiled for Complex.

Here’s what the article said about MTTM:

Let’s give it up for Married to the Mob, because they were the first true women’s streetwear brand and are still carrying the torch for the ladies. It’s a pretty monumental task considering the Boys Only nature of streetwear, but founder Leah McSweeney has accomplished more with MTTM than most male streetwear labels have in their entire career.

And Hellz:

As far as design goes, Hellz wins first place in the niche women’s streetwear department. Under the auspices of creator Lanie B., the brand follows a contemporary design trajectory, interjecting a street element around her edgy female couture. It’s a little bit punk, a little bit girly, and a whole lotta style—so much so that Hellz truly stands alone in its category. You know what? I take it back. Hellz isn’t just the best-designed women’s streetwear line, it’s one of the best-designed streetwear lines period.

And because of the forementioned anti-female tendencies, we’re not at all shocked–though totally bummed–that Claw Money was left off the list. Her Claw logo is legendary and her credentials are airtight so not sure how that is even possible…..No matter, we see you woman and 100 percent recognize.

Vans is hooking up again with streetwear label Hellz on a second collaboration that includes 90s-inspired creepers (above), buckle boots, and bags. The interesting twist is that the launch party will take place at Vans flagship store in Manila (that’s in the Phillipines if you’re geographically challenged like me) later this month. Nice work, ladies!

Hellz Hellz Bed Time Stories Dress

Inspired by the movie Black Swan, Hellz is pre-releasing this “Bed Time Stories” dress, for purchase only on the Hellz etail site.  Plenty of time to purchase it and create quite the sensation at your Oscar party of choice, even better if you’re the hostess! (And unlike the movie that inspired it, this dress comes free of the hiss-filled controversy over who gets the design credit!) More images courtesy of Hellz on the next page.
