This Donna Karan ad featuring Adriana Lima shot in Haiti with some “real” Haitians serving as a backdrop is ruffling some feathers. The biggest issue is that the shot was poorly executed. Whatever the original intent was and it was probably good, somewhere it got very lost in the translation. I mean, the first time I glanced at this ad I didn’t even see the kids.

Often described for what it lacks Haïti is a place where creativity has always been alive and well. It flourishes and grows even in the rubble. The above film  made in collaboration with Donna Karan and David Belle  gives a glimpse of a people who work with their hands, heart and soul. While we’re puzzled with the choice of   Senegalese Youssou N’dour (who we love) for the soundtrack (not  Haitian music?), we hope you are able to enjoy and be inspired!

We have a post-Vogue-Paris-break-up photo of Carine Roitfeld (that’s her with Diane Von Furstenberg above), spotted in Givenchy in New York last night at the Amfar Gala, which raises funds for AIDS research. Perhaps not coincidentally, we read on Fashioncopious this morning of more rumors on her departure from Vogue. The latest version, which comes from Cathy Horyn at the NY Times, is that there were complaints about her lack of presence as a manager (a la Nina Garcia and Elle) and Roitfeld offered in a threatening sort of way to resign….like, oh, you don’t like it, then fine, I’ll leave! And much to her surprise, the response was, great, don’t let the door hit on your way out! And part of the fallout was that Roitfeld and Emmanuelle Alt, who nabbed the editor in chief spot, are no longer speaking. Quelle novella!

The Spring/Summer 2010  runways featured peeks of lucite that we of course took notice of. As much as lucite shoes do not necessarily make us weak in the knees , its combinaton with brass in this show stopper neckpiece by Donna  Karan, is  definitely snobette worthy. I like Tory Burch. She’s doesn’t make my heart leap, but I respect her ’cause she knows her lane, stays right in it and delivers the goods every time. I see her as the new millennium Donna Karan in that she understands and is perfectly in sync with the mindset of the aspirational Manhattan female.
