While we can never dismiss the visual power of the red sole, the truth is Christian Louboutin’s designs are next level in a way  that is  pretty much always quirky and unique. How many times have you see a pair of stilettos with eyes on them ?  The “Déjà Vu” slingbacks are almost sold out here.

Christian Louboutin created the 8-inch, Swarkovsky-detailed heels featured above as an item to be featured in an upcoming auction to benefit the English National Ballet. Not meant to be walked in, clearly they’re inspired by an extreme silhouette that would be viewed as commonplace in the world of s&m. And in this case, it makes sense given ballet’s own dependence on foot maneuvers that are inherently tortuous to the foot.

Christian Louboutin has linked up once again with Peter Lippman, this time on a series of photographic reenactments of iconic portraits, which feature shoes from the Autumn 2011 colletion. The one we’ve featured here is inspired by the painting ”Magdalene and the Flame,” by Georges de la Tour. Kanye West wore these velvet slippers to the CFDA awards last night. Luv them! They remind me of the Christian Louboutin “Mikarani” opera slippers Samia posted last week. Are they? Perhaps a velvet version?

London-based Groound Zero’s Autumn/ Winter line 2011 hints of two of my fave things,  Christian Louboutin and Transformers. The duo of Eri and David Chu express their knack for creating the unique with robot-like graphics, and  a few pieces like the  ones above that play on the theme of the beloved Christian Louboutin. The top on the right is a graphic of his studded oxfords. On the next page a closer look at the Ground Zero Autumn/Winter 2011 collection.

It’s good to see an industry leader create a compelling flat sandal. It seems of late there’s been a lack of design innovation where flats are concerned, and yet that’s all we see women wearing these days in New York. Via Carolinesmode.
