La Diabla herself attended the Museum of Modern Art premiere of “Bill Cunningham’s New York,” and she looked her same unchanging self (which is reassuring in some way while at the same time jarring given the ever-evolving nature of fashion.) Notably absent from the red carpet images from Wire is Bill himself! Which natch, leads one to wonder if he couldn’t tear himself away from his role as street photographer for even long enough to walk his own carpet!

The king of street photography who has inspired a kabillion copiers will be the one with the lens focused on him in “Bill Cunningham New York,” a film by Richard Press. In an excerpt from the film’s website:

“Bill has lived in the same small studio above Carnegie Hall for fifty years, never eats in restaurants and gets around on a worn-out bicycle– his sole means of transportation. The contradiction of his monk-like existence and the extravagance of his photographic subject matter is one aspect of his private life revealed in the movie.”

The one catch is that for now, it’s only available for those who are in New York either March 24th or 25th for the three screenings. Wouldn’t be surprised if they all sell out.

If you don’t adore legendary lensman for the NY Times Bill Cunningham it’s probably only ’cause you don’t know who he is. He’s been doing his "On the Street" photography column for the paper forever, which is, hands down, the best part of the Time’s fashion coverage. This past week he did his totally on-point column on the piping-hot fashion trend of "spidery" high heels combined with short dresses. He also talks about the demise of handbags as the centerpiece of the outfit.  It’s a must-see.
