Being a Snobette in our definition is in many ways about loving the authenticity in style and fashion in all its quality, creativity and even quirkiness. While fast fashion mega brands have been praised with democratizing fashion, we often wish the offerings were more unique/original and did not get “inspired” by talented creatives who create lust-worthy pieces with originality and sass. A few years back we noticed Madewell’s “love” of A PeaceTreaty and recently, the cool ladies of Sixsixsickgirls bring to our attention Topshop’s Nail tip ring, which clearly is a rendition of the famed Bijules nail ring. All we have to say is why? Why not create something unique?
We featured Bijules jewellery collection yesterday but the designer herself, Jules Kim, is always amazing to look at, too–the braid! On the next page check out her shoe collaboration with Vans, first shown on the runway for her Nycked swimwear label in Miami.
Bringing you some of our favorites from our first day at Project in Vegas we passed by workroom to see what Bijules has in store. the 3 city rings are part of her latest installment of jewels reflecting the three cities of the brand’s evolution: New York, Milan, and Paris. Enjoy a look a the phenomenal Bijules’ latest project, Amasia as told to Vogue Italia–visually stunning in every way:
“I want to upset the quietness of the gold industry’s ’sacredness,’” explains the designer, introducing her film Amasia – Possible Future Supercontinent After Actual Earth directed by Robert Hamada with art director Guido Callarelli.
“With Amasia I wish to combine the force, at times brutal, of nature, to the purity of jewels. This market segment must reinvent itself all the time to live on and I want to be part of such transformation,” adds Jules Kim, while she explains that to get in the gold industry she has to carve out her space, breaking traditional barriers, beyond all expectations.
“I had the need to tell a story without limitations. For those who create jewelry it’s easier to portray a model wearing the collection,” she says smiling before the unstoppable flow of her film’s images.
The true leading lady of the video is nature, with all its power, uncontaminated and sublime. “Shooting the video in Iceland has been something unforgettable. I had never seen so much beauty,” says the jewelry designer that, despite New York’s schizophrenic rhythms, reveals a deep fascination for that remote island. “I chose to go beyond people’s expectations, I wished to stimulate their perception with something unexpected so that they will ask themselves who they are and what they will become …”
Jewellery designer Jules Kim models her latest Bijules creation, conceptual ear art. In this case it’s an ear plug, constructed of twin amethysts that create a buzzing sound when worn. Meanwhile, check out the ever-lovely Kim’s “V-Gap” nail art!
Bijules designer Jules Kim revealed her latest jewellery offerings at a party titled “The Seize Kind,” held at the ultra-plush Gramercy Park Hotel on Friday evening. Waiters displayed her offerings on trays (which one lamp-shaded party attendee was incensed to discover she couldn’t sample!) and like fashion has shifted to brighter dreams so, too, have accessories, as reflected by Kim’s designs–ever original, yet more twinkly and lighter this time around. In the image taken at the event above, that’s galatic beauty Kim on the left, with her down-to-earth-gorgeous friend and design partner (they worked on the swimsuit line Nyked together), Lorenzo Martone.
Just in time for the holiday season our beloved Bijules launches the Glaçons (”icicle” in French) collection, an assortment of sterling silver icicle-inspired pieces. The knuckle ring, we luv! View the collection on the flip, available at Fashionstake.
One of our longstanding faves, accessory designer and artist Bijules‘ gold nipple pastie was among the items used to style SHOWStudio’s fashion film, “The Waist,” part of the site’s Fashion Body series. Directed by photographer Kristian Schuller and filmmaker Marie Schuller, the film also features designs by Viktor & Rolf, Louis Vuitton and Gareth Pugh. See the entire film at SHOWstudio.
Never shy to poke at the edges of darkness, Bijules designer Jules Kim designed this three-hinged ring from a mold of her own finger, and admits, “I wanted it to be a little part of me and it had to be weird. There are conversations to be had about everything I wear or design.” It’s available now on Ahalife, where you can also check out a video interview with Kim on her design process. Jules Kim, the devilishly delicious designer behind Bijules just launched at collection called BJ by Jules Kim at Urban Outfitters. It features three different bar rings, a pinky ring and a nail ring. Those nail rings are semi-adjustable and fit over the the nail so if you were so inclined you could do a whole set and have quite the solid gold manicure.
