Steal a look at the Carters’ footwear on the next page: Jay is wearing Adidas Shelltoes and the missus has on some sky-high flashy numbers and because I’m not a geek like my partner, Samia, I have no idea who they’re designed by. 

es, Yes, those are Beyonce’s nails you’re looking at!! I mean, what the damn eff Bee, when exactly was the last time you got your nails did?? They are so bad in fact that I can’t help but think it’s a media stunt (granted a minor one), especially since she’s wearing what is supposedly her almost-never-worn engagement ring on the other hand. This is Bee, after all, the high priestness of Black Southern Belles, who do not do busted pedicures. And if if this is her attempt to be edgy, it’s not working! Mainly ’cause the chipped-nail look only works if you’re a skinny, young girl who smokes Marlboros and only ever wears skinny jeans and hightop Chucks. Sorry, but otherwise, you just look jacked-up and lazy.

JC Report has an excellent article today on the fashion choices being made by Rihanna and Beyonce. Clearly RihRih has given the intensely-competetive Beyonce a good kick in the ass. Here’s an excerpt:

Even with this ongoing creative collaboration, some industry insiders point to [Beyonce's] rivalry with fellow chart-topper Rihanna and other emerging singers. “We have to wonder if perhaps [Beyoncé] chose the dress to combat a certain popular singer who’s mentored by Jay-Z and who easily pulls off lesser-known designers,” notes New York magazine’s The Cut. And indeed many are whispering that Beyoncé’s newfound edge has to do with the need to keep up with other daring starlets’ growing fashion cred and directional picks.

We know Beyonce is smart enough to hire the best stylists in all the land who can do a very capable job of updating her look, but will it be a believable transformation?

I’ve complained about Bee’s fashion sense in the past–it’s too much a weird jumble of Southern Belle prom queen and N.Y. fashionista, but she does wear some killer items on ocassion, like these Chanel globes:

I like this new song by Bee and did the first time I heard it. The pacing and low notes suits her husky voice perfectly and the lyrics take center stage, which always works for me. And then, too, it has a twist. Nothing too complicated, but enough for me to chew on and enjoy. And watch for how much less attractive her man is when he makes his transformation at the end of the video.

Bee is so fly. You cannot deny her greatness.

When we were chatting yesterday with Shana of Pitch Control, the topic of celeb style came up and, natch, Beyonce’s name was in the mex. We agreed that while Beyonce’s legendary creds are money in the bank, sometimes (not always!) her look is a complete mess. It’s like she keeps trying to run that New York cool look, but the Southern belle in her can’t help but meddle in the mix and the results are not cute!

Case in point. Here she is at a party her man (who, FINALLY, is willing to be photographed putting his hands on her in public!) recently held at his New York 4040 Club:

^^Okay so she’s working the cute black mini, which creates a great backdrop for her big ole Chanel piece. It aint cutting edge granted, but it’s cute enough. But then look at the damn ole school, ”flesh-colored” stockings she’s wearing! WTF???? That’s so damn Sunday school that I gotta wonder if ANYONE has the ovaries to tell it like it is to her so she doesn’t leave the house looking ridiculous?
