I popped into Bergdorf Goodman’s (the store with all the Spring collections in full bloom looks amazing!) yesterday, and had the funnest chat with a gentleman working one of the bag departments on the first floor. When I asked him who was ruling the department this Spring, he unhesitatingly named Tom Ford. Yes, there are bigger, more established names, he explained, but for the Bergdorf customer looking to update her aready vast “it” bag collection, Tom Ford is the name she’s turning to this season.

And indeed, up close, the bags’ workmanship, hardware and materials story really are quite amazing. I wanted to post an image of a black clutch featuring a dramatically oversized zipper, but alas there are few pics of Tom Ford merch to be found on the web, no doubt exactly how Ford wants it! Instead, above is a Tom Ford bag pic pulled from Bergdorf’s Spring catalog. Behold the richness!

Christian Louboutin is asked five questions by New York boutique department store Bergdorf Goodman and charms with his easy manner and just-so French accent. Below are the questions along with snippets from his responses.

What’s your most cherished NYC secret?: The restaurant Quality Meats: “….I’m a meat lover……”
Whose closet would you like to raid?: Loulou de la Falaise: “…She’s been having 30 years of fashion history and so many colors and so many accessories….”
What must have can’t you live without?  I-phone:  ”….It’s difficult because I feel like it’s like an addiction, but it’s definitely, it’s the only addiction that I have so I think I’m fine with it.”
What is the one style you never want to see make a comeback? Clogs: “…for one reason, I love shoes and there’s a thing I love about shoes and it’s the sound of shoes……hearing the sound of a clog is really not nice, not pretty, it’s an ugly sound….”
What is your worst childhood fashion memory: A ski suit: “….I had this incredibly puffy, bright red, ski outfit….”

We’re heading into a shoe cycle, less adventurous, more classic, which has the potential to benefit Manolo Blahnik, who, let’s face it, has fallen off since his glory days as the leading shoe of choice on Sex & the City. And while these shearling-detailed Manolo Blahnik “Pregga” boots, via Fashionising, leaped out from the page when I first spied them,  a few minutes later I wasn’t so sure. I cannot tell a lie, part of the issue is the shallow fact that the brand just isn’t hot right now. Still, I’m seeing glimmers that change is on the horizon, and the gifted ones–as Blahnik of course is–always seem to find a way their claw their way back up the ladder.
