Alexander Wang Chiffon Sweatshirt Dress

 Alexander Wang Chiffon Sweatshirt Dress

As signature a look as the Chanel quilt, newly available at Opening Ceremony. Question, if Alex were a contestant on Project Runway, would he be eliminated for showing a lack of ability to innovate? “We know he can design with stretch cotton, but if I see one more sweatshirt dress I’m gonna puke!” (Sorry, just watched a marathon of the Jeffrey Sebalia season, in which the judges repeatedly lambasted Laura Bennett for her excessive use of plunging necklines.)

Two heavy hitters, designer Alex Wang and retailer Opening Ceremony have come together on a tote bag, which features Alex’s signature bottom-stud detail. For those of you who are dying for an Alex statement piece, but can’t lay out the multiple hundreds, this tote is $125 and offered with either silver or gold studs.

CFDA Fashion Awards Announced

 CFDA Fashion Awards Announced

The CFDA Fashion Award nominees were announced last night. The event took place at CFDA President Diane Von Furstenberg’s studio in the Meat Packing District. Already we know there’s going to be a Special Tribute Award for Alexander McQueen and Chris Bailey of Burberry will receive the International Award, plus Iman wins the Fashion Icon Award and Michael Kors is the recipient of the Jeffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award (can he get a little something extra for also being the break-out comic of Project Runway??).

I’ll let you go to the link to see details, but the hottest and heaviest competition will be between Marc and Alex for the Womenswear Designer of the Year Award. Marc has won the award twice but not since 1997. Still, my money is on Alex, everyone’s current darling. Which leads one to wonder which collection will be the first one that causes his adoring masses to turn on him. Remember Marc and his grunge collection back in the ’90s? That shit was crazy! Alex can only pray to have such a divine fall from grace.

KhloeJBrandAlex Khloe K. in Super Hot J. Brand AND Alex Clogs!!

She’s been my secret-fave Kardashian sister for a while now (shhh, don’t tell anyone), but I’m not so sure anymore now that I’ve spotted her wearing two items I am dying to own (one of which–the shoes–I never will, they are sold to the wall, folks): J. Brand super-duper hot Houlihan jeans, and, (I sob as I write this) THE Alexander Wang clogs. How do I now hate you, “Klow,” let me count the ways!

Alex Wang in Interview: He Keeps Getting Cuter

AlexWangInterviewMag Alex Wang in Interview: He Keeps Getting Cuter

Check this action-packed and adorable shoot (photographed by Mikael Jansson) featuring Alex Wang for the March issue of Interview magazine. I like how he’s caught up in all this action that’s a little bit beyond his control. Similar to how he’s part of the new up-and-coming generation of designers who are, in some, cases, pushing the old guarde to the side.

AlexWangFront Alex Wang Goes on Sale Today at 4PM

Alexander Wang’s spring collection goes on sale today on his website at 4 pm, eastern standard time I presume, according to Elle magazine, who guesses the leopard wedges, featured above, will basically evaporate. We concur! However, this news is only a big deal for those who missed the already launched collection on ShopBop(how’d you let that happen, Alex??), where the famous “it” wedge, priced at $650, is now only available in size 35, 36 and 37.

Alexander Wang Fall 2010

 Alexander Wang Fall 2010

After the runway show video linked to here, there’s an interview with Alex, in which he discusses his inspiration for his Fall 2010 collection. Until now, he’s been chummiest with the Downtownista, but this time around he pushed her in a more mature direction by fusing her sensibilities with the ultimate ’90s powerbroker, the Wallstreet business lady. Much more secure in her role than she was even ten years ago, today’s business women no longer feels required to mascarade in the female version of a man’s suit. So perhaps it is apropos for fashion to take apart and rebuild the look. Given the inspiration, it’s not suprising that the pinstripe looks are the strongest.  I’m not so sure about other parts of the show. It’ll be interesting to see how it plays out in fashion editorals.

No offical show images are on line yet from the Alexander Wang Fall 2010 show, but Wire image did have a couple of backstage images and then some cut-off runway shots. To be honest, I had no idea Alex was this aodrable! He looks all relaxed-casual here with La Diabla herself, but what do you want to bet on the inside his stomach is doing multiple flip-flops?

UPDATE: Watch a stream of the show at SHOWstudio. Loving the pinstripe trousers and skirts. Urban Outfitters, Forever 21, etc….start your knock-off engines!

Alex Wang Alla Wedge at ShopBop

Alex Wang Alla Wedge at ShopBop

Shoes like these Alex Wang “Alla” Wedges are why I love fashion. I look at them and they actually make my heart leap. They made their first apperance on Alex’s Spring 2010 runway show and now they’re coming soon to ShopBop. Dreams do really come true! And yep, tomorrow is Alex’s big day on the runway for New York Fashion Week. He shows tomorrow at 5:00 at Pier 94. Talk about a coveted ticket. I’d wager NYC’s Downtownistas would like a seat for that show at least as much as Marc Jacob’s.

Alexander Wang talks to Ponystep

large 3256 Alexander Wang talks to Ponystep

One of the youngest names to have taken fashion by storm, with sold out , highly coveted apparel and accessories Alexander Wang got so speak to Colin Mcdowell of Ponystep: “Indeed, in these times of economic crisis his business is something of an enigma, with sales skyrocketing. His accessories have become the most coveted ‘must haves’ around, and more importantly, genuinely affordable. At just 25 years old the boy is something of a fashion prodigy, already heading up a team of 40 staff at his NY studio. And it’s growing. Wang’s fashion empire consists of much more than merely his Women’s line. Versatility (a recurring sound bite throughout the interview) is fundamental to the success of his label. And versatile he is, with a GAP collaboration already firmly under his belt, a newly unveiled Men’s collection and the T diffusion line all proving to be massively successful, the question prevails; what next for Alexander Wang?” Read the full inter view here.
