The Alexander Wang accessories phenomenon is alive and well as this young label has been able to capture the elements of  the most wanted in fashion that is usually seen in brands with a much longer history. If we go down the history of “it” bags on a global scale, I cannot think of one  independent high end accessories  label  that has achieved such rapid commercial appeal as Wang.  The closest I can come to would be Kate Spade’s nylon totes  in the 90s ? Alex Wang is getting a jump start on fall with these “Polina” ponyhair, platform boots, which reflect fashion’s current obsession with tails, whether raccoon, fox or pony. These days they seem to be either clipped on to or used to detail everything from bags to dresses.  After the flip more pairs of Wang shoes, including a pair of mules and two pairs of boots, all black.

Alexander Wang resort 2011 was previewed at Style yesterday. It’s tough to get a read on what the signature piece/s will be because of how the models are standing stick straight. One thing for sure, Wang aint backing away from the crop top at all. In fact, he’s even showing one with a turtleneck! Also, the trousers from his fall collection are still there, but they’re more highwater this time. And there is all that mixing of spring pieces (crop tops!) with winter items (heavy cardigans) that has become de rigeur in contemporary fashion these days. All in all, nothing to make one gasp with delight, more a steady continuation of what we’ve come to expect.

We already posted some of our favorites from the MET, but I’m posting up this image featuring Alexander Wang in lieu of my giant screw-up post (since deleted), whereby I got all excited over an upcoming Alex X Gap collabo, which as a reader kindly informed me was from last year! Ugh. And I call myself a Wang groupie—shame on me!

As signature a look as the Chanel quilt, newly available at Opening Ceremony. Question, if Alex were a contestant on Project Runway, would he be eliminated for showing a lack of ability to innovate? “We know he can design with stretch cotton, but if I see one more sweatshirt dress I’m gonna puke!” (Sorry, just watched a marathon of the Jeffrey Sebalia season, in which the judges repeatedly lambasted Laura Bennett for her excessive use of plunging necklines.)

Two heavy hitters, designer Alex Wang and retailer Opening Ceremony have come together on a tote bag, which features Alex’s signature bottom-stud detail. For those of you who are dying for an Alex statement piece, but can’t lay out the multiple hundreds, this tote is $125 and offered with either silver or gold studs.

The CFDA Fashion Award nominees were announced last night. The event took place at CFDA President Diane Von Furstenberg’s studio in the Meat Packing District. Already we know there’s going to be a Special Tribute Award for Alexander McQueen and Chris Bailey of Burberry will receive the International Award, plus Iman wins the Fashion Icon Award and Michael Kors is the recipient of the Jeffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award (can he get a little something extra for also being the break-out comic of Project Runway??). 

I’ll let you go to the link to see details, but the hottest and heaviest competition will be between Marc and Alex for the Womenswear Designer of the Year Award. Marc has won the award twice but not since 1997. Still, my money is on Alex, everyone’s current darling. Which leads one to wonder which collection will be the first one that causes his adoring masses to turn on him. Remember Marc and his grunge collection back in the ’90s? That shit was crazy! Alex can only pray to have such a divine fall from grace.

She’s been my secret-fave Kardashian sister for a while now (shhh, don’t tell anyone), but I’m not so sure anymore now that I’ve spotted her wearing two items I am dying to own (one of which–the shoes–I never will, they are sold to the wall, folks): J. Brand super-duper hot Houlihan jeans, and, (I sob as I write this) THE Alexander Wang clogs. How do I now hate you, “Klow,” let me count the ways!

Check this action-packed and adorable shoot (photographed by Mikael Jansson) featuring Alex Wang for the March issue of Interview magazine. I like how he’s caught up in all this action that’s a little bit beyond his control. Similar to how he’s part of the new up-and-coming generation of designers who are, in some, cases, pushing the old guarde to the side.
