Alexander McQueen Has Passed

 Alexander McQueen Has Passed

A sad adieu to a major fashion force. I’ll miss not only his ability to fan flames–because being controversial isn’t that difficult, but the fact that he backed it all up with enormous talent, vision and drive. I’d like to add that he was fearless, too, but I imagine that was built into his DNA and he couldn’t live his life any other way.  The images from above are from his final women’s runway show, held in October 2009. The collection, according to press, ”was casting an apocalyptic forecast of the future ecological meltdown of the world.” In one of his final tweets, McQueen aptly stated:

“From heaven to hell and back again, life is a funny thing. Beauty can come from the most strangest of places even the most disgusting places.” A few minutes later, he posted: “Why people ignore the ugly things in life but within this they are missing the beauty that lies under the rotten fruit!!!!!!!!!!!!”

There’s a lovely written tribute from Tim Blanks on Style and here are a collection of quotes from celebs who knew him well, including Anna Wintour, Kate Moss, and Karl Lagerfeld.

KelisFaceDataAwards Kelis at Data Awards Causes Internet Snit Fit

Kelis appeared yesterday at the 1st Annual Data Awards (don’t ask me what they are, all I know is they pulled some heavy hitters) and caused much of the internet’s panties to bunch upon spying her get up. Me personally I’d rather see an outfit like this than all the dresses at the boring-as-all-get-out Golden Globes combined. Not everyone can pull this off–and I’m not sure even Kelis is, but I sure am having fun watching her try.

To check out her footwear–those crazy Alex McQueen BDSM shoes, click to the other side.

Alexander McQueen Spring’10 Shoes!

alex13 Alexander McQueen Spring10 Shoes!

When I saw these babies I was stunned and then I read Sara Mower’s decription of these  Alexander McQueen’s Shoes: “…their gangly legs sunk in grotesque shoes that looked like the armored heads of a fantastical breed of antediluvian sea monster…” Nonetheless  all I can think about is the face of the cobbler who had to make these, and then the fact that from the front these “booties” look totally different than they do sideways. Forget wearability these will end up on some editorial for sure. Cannot wait to see who will dare? One the next page more McQueen Spring 2010 Shoes! Via style.

clutch Alexander McQueen Faithfull Glove Clutch

I have been enjoying sporting a clucth bag  in the city, nonetheless one my silent fears, has been the thought of  being in a crowded place ( like rush hour at grand central terminal ) and  getting shoved by the flow of rushing commuters  and the contents of  my beloved clutch landing on the ground. The Alexander Mcqueen Faitfhull Clutch with its attached glove inspired by the illustrious Marianne Faithfull, is so practical I just had to share. Detailed view on the next page.via net-a-porter.

Alexander McQueen Fall 2009

Alexander McQueen’s Fall 2009 Ready to wear collection looked a lot more like Couture. With ghastly white faces, super plumped lips, and what appeared to be lampshades on the model’s heads the show had a serious amount of drama. Once you get past the over the top makeup and styling you will find a great deal of the line to be wearable.  Sometimes my favorite part of a show like McQueen’s is digging through all the looks to find pieces to pull and wear in the real world. It makes the garments feel all that much more special.
