British style icon Alexa Chung has returned to front French label Maje’s Spring 2013 campaign, as shot by British photographer Craig McDean. The campaign is said to be inspired by the Pop Art movement and Andy Warhol, but me, myself, I’m not exactly getting that vibe.
Did you guys see this last week? It came out just before #Sandy hit. Watch if you need some post-storm cheering up because it’s so fun. Lesley Gore, who originally recorded the ’60s hit “You Don’t Own Me,” put together a video featuring the song as lip synched by a bunch of very cool females, including Lena Dunham, Tracee Ellis Ross, Tavi Gevinson and Alexa Chung among many others. Here’s the message according to Gore, who speaks at the end of the video:
Women, let’s rise up. Our vote alone can win this election. A vote for Obama is a vote for your health and your right to choose. It is a vote for equal pay and equal rights. A vote for Obama is a vote for our families. It is a vote to marry who you choose. It’s a vote to start a family when you choose. A vote for Obama says that we won’t stand for violence against women and that rape is rape. Our vote ensures that our daughters will grow up with the same rights that we’ve had. A vote for Obama sends a message: This war on women must end. We will not go backwards.
Baby-girl cheezing at :30 is melting my heart down.to.the.ground! Also, can I just say–I cannot wait to pull the lever for Barack Hussein Obama on Tuesday November 6th, super excited ’bout it!

After The Kooples yesterday, today I’d like to introduce another French label which has its roots in Paris. After several collaborations with f.e. Les Putafranges for colette and Francoise Hardy, in Europe Maje is already known for it’s clean feminine silhouettes that exude glamour with edge. For the Autumn 2012 collection the brand tapped the wonderful Alexa Chung, who is a big fan of the brand and, aptly represents the 60s-inspired look and femininity of the campaign. Photographed by Glen Luchford we see Chung in the Parisian Metro, maintaining the lightly, dreamy look that makes her a muse magnifique.
Reluctant “it” girl Alexa Chung and China Chow literally get busy with print and pattern-themed fashion, while in attendance at a CFDA and Luxottica Group event, held in NYC.
Fashion favorite Alexa Chung dressed all in black (including her nails) was in attendance at a Burberry’s “Serpentine” party, held in London, last night.
See her full look with and without a trenchcoat, along with many other attendees on the next page.
Chanel showed its Resort 2011/2012 collection yesterday and the attendees of course included plenty of beauties, highlighted by Chanel handbag rep, Blake Lively. Karl Lagerfeld has received a lot of criticism for choosing the young actress to front Chanel, but the truth is, since the signing she is looking a lot slicker and has clearly benefited from Lagerfeld’s magic touch (though it looks like her red hair dye job was temporary ’cause it’s fading fast!). Still, if she doesn’t bring anything of substance to the plate beyond “Gossip Girl,” her days are going to be numbered as a starlette.
On the next page, Alexa Chung debuts two-tone hair, plus Clemence Poesy, Anna Mouglalis, Rachel Bilson, Karl Lagerfeld, Laura Bailey, Vanessa Paradis and Poppy Delevingne.
Last night Madewell ’s lower 5th Avenue store hosted a fun little shinding featuring the Bumbys, a set a of DJ s, loads of mouth-watering treats from local vendors and bakers to celebrate their brand spanking new location. The new store houses Madewell collections as well as a pop-up assortment of Home town Heroes collections from In God We trust, Love Adorned, Top Hat, Brady & Kowalski, and Bowery Lane Bicycle, only available in the store for two weeks. Superga looks to Alexa Chung to sprink her magic fairy fashion dust on the brand, which has struggled to make headway in the U.S. market (not sure how it’s held up in Europe–probably better as it’s Italy-based). Whether or not she succeeds in upping the brand’s profile on our side of the pond, it’s nice to see a woman known for trend-setting speak to the appeal of sneakers. We’ve always found it odd that fashion mags more or less ignore the casual side of women’s wardrobes as though we only care about style as it applies to work or eveningwear.
Chanel presented its Autumn 2011 ready-to-wear collection for Paris Fashion Week today and as always the arrivals were as entertaining as the runway presentation itself. Karl’s girls always go all out, many of them wearing Chanel head to toe or at the very least carrying a quilted bag or clutch. Above is major girl of the moment, Alexa Chung, on the next page Lily Allen, Anna Wintour, Duffy, Emma Roberts, Leigh Lezark, plus a few more.
Lots of folks are excited about Madewell’s collaboration with Alexa Chung, which will launch tomorrow. There have been some sneak peak images and here’s another one in video format. Via Racked.
