Nike Relaunches Air Force 1 Starting With ‘AF1 Lunar Force’

If you spend any time at all on Twitter you know that Nike has cranked up its influencer machine around the 30th anniversary celebration and relaunch of its mighty Air Force 1, doing the usual gathering of fashionable folks who are being spirited away to various secret locations, gifted with product (plus tons of Kool Aid), which they’re now happily Tweeting all about, pinning posts with #keepitcoming.

The above image is Nike’s AF1 Lunar Force, a lighter sleeker version of the Uptown and the first in the “Family of Force” series, which will be available for purchase starting today at Nike’s Pivot Point pop-up shop in Brooklyn near the Barclay Center (520 Atlantic Avenue).

Nike designer Marc Dolce who was responsible for the project sat down with GQ magazine and here is one quote from the q&a on how the original shoe was altered:

“We wanted to make them lighter and leaner since they can be kind of heavy. We went from making it 18 ounces to about 12. That was a big call out. When you’re walking around all day with shoes, your legs feel it and we wanted to make sure it was something you wear all the time. And what we really wanted to do was make it more flexible. I think that was something missing in the original. It wasn’t so flexible; it really didn’t feel good to the foot.”
