Bill Cunningham: Sky-High Heels and the Return of the Dress

16 September 2008, 17.13 | Posted in Accessories, Art, Fashion, Shoes | No comments »

If you don’t adore legendary lensman for the NY Times Bill Cunningham it’s probably only ’cause you don’t know who he is. He’s been doing his "On the Street" photography column for the paper forever, which is, hands down, the best part of the Time’s fashion coverage. This past week he did his totally on-point column on the piping-hot fashion trend of "spidery" high heels combined with short dresses. He also talks about the demise of handbags as the centerpiece of the outfit.  It’s a must-see.

Zac Posen S/S 09 NY Fashion Week: Purple Lipsick!

12 September 2008, 17.24 | Posted in Uncategorized | No comments »

Checking out the NY Fashion week reviews over at Style (which, btw, takes waaaay to long to load!) this morn, I noticed that Zac Posen got salamied by whoever reviewed his show. I didn’t think it was THAT bad, but oh well, points to the writer for giving her honest opinion. There’s so much fawning in this business, it’s nice when people express something less than positive. Anyway, my fave part of Zac’s show? The purple lipstick and earrings. Not a whole lot of people who can pull that look off, but against this model’s dark skin it looks pretty striking. But I don’t care what color your skin is, if your over 25 and not drop-dead gorgeous this look probably aint gonna work for ya.

YSL Manifesto Teaser Clip

04 September 2008, 17.55 | Posted in Accessories, Common Sense, Design | No comments »

"On September 6, YSL will distribute over half a million copies of its Manifesto to urbanites in Paris, New York, London, Milan, Tokyo, and Hong Kong. In the newspaper-style publication, Naomi Campbell is photographed in the Fall/Winter 2008-2009 collection by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin. The first 5,000 shoppers will also receive a tote bag designed by Stefano Pilati. On the same day, a behind-the-scenes film of the shoot will debut exclusively on ysl.com"-FashionWeekDaily

To be Honest I am posting this out of sheer love and respect for Yves St.Laurent(R.I.P.) himself. I ‘m not really impressed with the tote itself, I would think Stefano Pilati and his team ,who has shown that they lack no sense of creativity would have come up with something a little more original..

peep the tote on the next page If you have not seen it already it also comes in white…

Henkik Vibskov X Quinny Strollers ect..!

A couple of years after college, grad school, your social circle starts  to get married, shack up and of course have babies. On such occasions comes the unevitable baby showers and  the hunt for a suitable offering.I have  to be honest and confess that I have been appaled by the tackyness and overly cuteness of what’s out there, more apparent  when it’s daddy’s time to take the little one, it’s a flowery contraption that just  kills the sexy and  any fashion sense mommy and daddy might have but, things are changing!

Henrik Vibskov one of my  designer loves from Denmark partners with Quinny to create baby gear that allows you keep your style while you  take on the urban jungle with your little one…

Labrynth Satchel 1 Mulholland makes Travelling in Style easy...

Spulrging on the latest ,hottest x y or z can lead to reflection, and careful consideration if passion does not just get the best of you every time..Nonetheless one thing I believe every woman should have and prolly splurge on  is good luggage…

The airlines try to charge you for every thing, food , choosing your seat, ,checking in a bag…So, until you have your own jet,you might as well keep your belongings with you and do so with a well designed, stylish bag.

Seriously forget vanity… when it comes to travelling you  want  your luggage to last.Especially if you travel alot, check  the new Mulholland Collections ,a 20 year old  label based in the US for some ideas:

*The M Labyrynth(satchel above)  ,employs geometric patterns derived from Classic Roman style, giving each piece a slick, modern and edgy vibe. Made of Latigo leather and designed with a proprietary debossing technique. The Labyrinth motif was derived from a 4th century design very modern and geometric, my favorite!

*The Waxed Canvas,a 100 year-old performance textile, once developed for Aussie cowboys, making for an ideal vintage-look. Vintage Waxed Canvas’ safari, outback aesthetic is water-repellent and breathable and the hardware is a gunmetal finish .

CCskye is HighSnobette Approved!

 CCskye is HighSnobette Approved!

Lois put me on to CCskye  designed by Courtney Crumley a while back when she featured her rings. On a closer look I was won  over by the label because of its versatility and the great sense of balance of her designs, for example a neck piece like the one above could be kind of beauty pageant/bridesmaid gaudy but the intentional asymetry make it fierce and modern…jeans ,a tank ,biker jacket and you’re fiyah…

check after the jump for my fave pieces..

Chanel Signet Rings

 Chanel Signet Rings

With celebrity endorsments at the forefront many labels can achieve cult status without having any real history , exquisite craftmanship or trademark Nonetheless with Labels like Chanel  the tradition  and the "trendiness "can coexist ,especially when they can  create eccessories like the Signest Ring above who gives hommage to the Iconic Gabrielle Bonheur Chanel named  by Time Magazine as one of the 100 most influential people of the 20th century

 Chanel Signet Rings

It’s like you could see Coco  rock those rings…For all of you out there in the  fashion Biz  Most labels last not just because of great product, the people and personalities  behind them have a lasting impact…So be nice..say hello to people you’d be surprised what that does…

Enjoy
