Prada Made In India

Inspired by her father’s love of  global craftsmanship, Miuccia Prada launches a series of “Prada  Made in…” projects, for which items are created using artisan expertise from all over the world. Now, Prada did not go as far as A Peace Treaty in naming each product after the artisan who actually sewed it, but did  create special  labels that honor each country. Of course the Snobettes  applaud  theconcept of highlighting well made apparel and accessories  in a world where fast and mass tend to prevail. On the next page a look at the workmanship from India, Scotland, Peru and Japan. Wrapping up our coverage of Capsule trade show in New York last week, we bring you some looks from Boxing Kitten’s Spring/Summer 2011 collection. In a shift away from the super bright colors, which have been a theme, designer Maya Lake’s offerings included some black and white blouses, her very first solid-colored garments. And even with the dress shown here, the African-inspired pattern play remains, but again, there’s a shift away from vibrancy, which was very much in step with what we were seeing on the floor of the show in general–colors more subdued with newness generated by silhouettes, fabric innovation, and detailing (which is why I think the Prada rumor is true–bright color just aint “it” for Spring).

Apparently the acceptability of Prada’s Spring 2011 collection has been called into question. According to WWD:

Prada firmly denied speculation Monday that it would alter or nix the spring/summer collection it paraded on the Milan runway last week. The rumor went that Prada’s chief executive officer Patrizio Bertelli was unhappy with the colorful and graphic range, which received good reviews from critics and retailers. According to sources, Prada cancelled some writing appointments in Milan for American retailers, saying the company would bring an enhanced offering to New York at the end of October.

It was kind of boxy and bright and art-girl rebellious, though in fairness my take was that Prada collections always need time to ripen. Maybe that’s why the shoes featured here via Purplediary are lying on their side….gasping for air perhaps?

Prada is one of those brands that doesn’t necessarily reveal itself on the runway. It best trends to emerge with the season. Still, the show seemed to get better as it went on, in part because the emergence of minimalist looks, which is looking like a Spring 2011 trend of some import, is really sticking in my throat.

Miuccia Prada season after season shows  us how much of a boss she is when it comes to leading the way. Without fail there are  always hints of Prada that hit mass market. It will be interesting to see the brands who pick up on the stripes, canvas satchels, raffia footwear etc. she showed for Spring 2011. That cute little green strapless flower and striped dress we will see for sure!  We have the spring boot, looks like there will be such a thing as spring fur? Agata Ruiz De La Prada did not disappoint for spring 2011 as she stayed true to creating the kind of humorous , show-stopping apparel that she is famous for. Today we focus on the shoes, which are of course so fun we could not ignore! More on the next page via wire.
