Cultist: New Merch

29 February 2008, 16.40 | Posted in Fashion, Stores | No comments »

Wonderful online retailer The Cultist has some new items for sale. Here’s the ones we liked the most:

RTEmagicC CultistStripedDress.jpg Cultist: New Merch

^^Insight’s Ferris Wheel Dress

RTEmagicC CultistGraphLeggings.jpg Cultist: New Merch

^^Love Machine Leggings

RTEmagicC CultistHighWaistStraights.jpg Cultist: New Merch

^^Insight’s Annie Hall Tee

One tiny thing I wish were different about The Cutlist is the navigation. When I click on a category–say tops–what comes up is a bunch of images that reveal just a portion of the item–thus I have to click on every picture to see what’s what. When PMS-ing this makes me wanna cry, otherwise I just get annoyed and inspired to think hateful thoughts.

Best friends forever!

We Still Like Big Booties

28 February 2008, 18.55 | Posted in Fashion, Other | No comments »

It has come to my attention that since moving from ChicksWithKicks to our somehow posher and slicker digs at HighSnobette Place, there hasn’t been a lot of attentioin paid to one of our fave body parts. Yes. You know it. Speak it with me. The female backside.

If you’ve followed us from our early days, you’d know that in particular we like BIG butts. Not that there’s anything wrong with flat asses, but lord knows that pretty much the entire fashion industrial complex (see Vogue, Elle, Carine’s ”girls,” any major label runway show, etc.) is obsessed with pancake butts and as such we feel no great need to prop up the egos of our sisters who don’t do such a hot job of filling out the back pockets of their jeans.

HowEVER, for those that are lacking and wishing they could be more of Kanye’s type, i.e., ”the girls who aint on TV ’cause they got more ass than the models,” help has arrived! Check out these bottom-building panties from Huit:

^^Sometimes we could all use an lil’ extra padding (hat tip to PopGloss).

One question, was the owner of one of our favorite ba-donka-donks, Kim Kardashian, born with it or is she just pushing the padding??

LVMH: We So Over You

28 February 2008, 18.05 | Posted in Accessories | No comments »

While still in a hateful mood, now seems as good a time as any to ask the following: On the entire planet is there a color, collaboration or treatment that could be applied to a bag covered with LV logos that would inspire you to think, “Damn–THAT bag makes me wish I had a sugar daddy!!”?

Carine Roitfeld: Mon Damn Dieu!

27 February 2008, 18.01 | Posted in Books | 1 comment »

So much for thinking that Carine Roitfeld, big cheese of French Vogue, was the cool version of Anna Wintour. In a New York mag article last week, she comes off as just as big of a jerk as The Devil, albeit wrapped in a French package. In other words, her shitty attitude is more subtle and less in your face and as such takes longer to be exposed to the light of day. End of day, they’re still both peas in a mink-lined pod.

RTEmagicC CarineRoitfeldbySlimane.jpg Carine Roitfeld: Mon Damn Dieu!

^^Not as successful as Anna, but much, much skinnier!

Here were some of her quotes:

“I will never be a business girl, but I will say, for Anna Wintour, I respect successful people, I like things that are success. But this is really American.” (Yeah, yeah, yeah, the usual tired stereotypes about how Americans only care about success and $$$. The reality is, Europeans find the fact that we talk so much about money boorish ’cause there, you either have it or you don’t and if you don’t, TOO BAD, peasant, you never will so stop whining!)

“I have [a scale] in my office so people always say that I weigh my staff, and it is totally wrong. All my girls are very thin and very chic and very beautiful. And if they’re not beautiful, well, then they are very charming. So people always say I weigh them, but no. I don’t weigh my girls.” (No scale, but you’re either a toothpick or a fat, funny girl. Even Anna has never said anything this gross. She thinks it no doubt, but at least she has the brains to keep her trap shut about it.)

Remarking on an assistant, she states, “Doesn’t she look like Nicole Kidman? I told you all the girls who work at French Vogue vewy skinny and beautiful.” (The token fat, charming girl got fired last week apparently.)

On on recent vacation to Thailand, she comments, “You think this will be so glamorous. You have this idea in your mind and then you get there and the people in the hotel…there were lots of people there who were fat and like that.” (Poor Carine, having to rub shoulders with commoners–fat ones no less!)

And she doesn’t know how to use a computer (lame) and “her girls” are not allowed to wear sneakers in the office (also lame, shows no appreciation for streetwear trends). Though she’s also banned Uggs, which, hey, no one’s entirely evil!

Je T’embrasse!

Etsy We Love

27 February 2008, 17.03 | Posted in Fashion, Shoes, Sneakers, Stores | No comments »

Etsy has been highlighted here before. If you haven’t been, it’s a site where people can sell their stuff. It’s kind of like EBay except there’s no time limit or bidding. And I don’t know about all Etsy categories (like furniture and various sundry other crap), but the people who sell clothing there seem to be younger and a lot less cuckoo-cuckoo than the typcial Ebay sellers with their flashing, flower-filled wallpapers and 15 paragraphs on how you’re gonna burn in hell if you don’t send them their money immediately and don’t even THINK about trying to send anything back. Even if, like in my case, they send you dresses that end up being much bigger than you thought ’cause they were pinned back in the photos or shirts with runs they forgot to mention or size 11 shoes that were actually a MEN’s size 11 and so on down the line.

So basically even thought you have to sift through a bunch of gross hippie crap on Etsy–plus ever new damn Mom thinking she has to start a infant clothing line (Ugh!)–it’s still a LOT better than Ebay. Plus, besides vintage stuff, there are a lot of designers there who make there own stuff and some of it is pretty cute.

So, here are some things I came across this past week that I thought you guys would appreciate. I listed the seller’s name and linked to it under the image:

(But because the backend of HighSnobette can sometimes be a total pain in the ASS, I can’t link to the buyers on the other page. You’ll just have to go to the site and search for them. You’re a smart bunch, I’m sure you can manage.)

Young Retailers

26 February 2008, 20.49 | Posted in Stores | No comments »

The WSA is kinda a stiff show. Attendees tend to be older and on the conservative side. Which is fine, but which is also why these three young woman stood out to me in my final hours at the show. First I noticed their shoes, but then when we started chatted, they got me laughing, cracking jokes the whole time.  They were there buying for their store, The Glass Slipper, located in North Carolina, and they provided a much needed breath of fresh air.

Lacoste @ WSA

26 February 2008, 20.05 | Posted in Shoes, Sneakers | No comments »

Lacoste is working on upping its design game when it comes to women’s offerings and the effort has clearly paid off with the fall 2008 collection:

RTEmagicC Lacoste3Shoes 01.jpg Lacoste @ WSA

^^Don’t quote me on this, but I think the rep told me that these shoes were designed by a guy who used to design for Vivienne Westwood. The rep was wearing these shoes and I gotta say, they looked HOT with her dark denim straight legs (albeit, she was really tall and skinny and pretty so that could have been a factor).

Michael Antonio @ WSA

26 February 2008, 18.30 | Posted in Shoes | No comments »

Erika, champion p.r. rep for Turner PR, usually reaches out to me before the WSA and invites me to see a brand she handles called Michael Antonio. And I’ll be honest, I always hesistate to accept ’cause HighSnobette’s focus is the fast and the edgey and when it comes to women’s shoes, the expensive. Yes, we are little snobs (and proud of it!)

But let’s face it, while I fantasize about myself flossing in a pair of Giuseppe Zanotti platforms, there’s that little thing called the reality of my bank account. And most women are like me, we appreciate and covet designer, but we’re not wearing it head-to-toe and we’re definitely not wearing it everyday. And when it comes to shoe trends that are clearly going to come and go quickly, it’s not just okay, but sensible to go with a brand, which, while not the real thing, comes close to approximating it. And Micahel Antonio, which Erika describes as “the H&M of footwear,” is that kind of brand.

Here are some of the up-and-coming spring shoes I liked the most:

RTEmagicC MichaelAntGlad.jpg Michael Antonio @ WSA

^^Gladiators in every glossy shade under the sun

RTEmagicC MichaelAntGladSnake.jpg Michael Antonio @ WSA

^^More glads featuring funky faux snakeskin (or maybe croc…)

RTEmagicC MichaelAnt3HighHeels.jpg Michael Antonio @ WSA

^^Strappy highhells with contrasting straps and gold buckles

RTEmagicC MichaelAntPink.jpg Michael Antonio @ WSA

^^Close-up on the pink ones; I’m gonna own a pair of sandals in this color this spring. I promise you that.

Click to the right if you want to see more Michael Antonio, which can be purchased on the brand’s web site and in lots of different stores.

With great affection from,

Lois “Yes we CAN fit another pair of shoes in our closet” Sakany
