Taking on another dimension to their web retailing, Prada launches Spring 2011 footwear on their e-store today. Interestingly enough the very coveted Spring 2011 creepers in tobacco we hear are already sold out, while the black and blue ones are still available. I for one loved seeing the look of creepers with dresses, oddly reminds me of Olive Oyl, and in fashion dreams where I’m just a wee bit statuesque I do rock them like no other. Nonetheless, the woven styles above will do just fine.
Miu Miu’s moment continues with its Autumn 2011 runway show at Paris Fashion Week, with its trademark swallows and lush mink stoles back in play. Miucca Prada’s genius is her ability to create signature patterns and graphics, which are instantly identifiable as belonging to Miu Miu (or older sis, Prada). And what the fashion plates love is that those swallows, monkeys and bananas speak to almost a secret/insider language, far elevated above that of a logo, which for some is viewed as almost crude in its directness. Titled “Real Fantasies,” this Prada video lookbook directed by James Lima is an artsy look at Prada’s Spring 2011 offerings, in large part inspired by tripped-out 60s fashion when Twiggy was at her height, but also with some sprinkle dust from Monty Python for added amusement. All in all, another departure (House of Holland’s camp “Hawt Couture”) from the sexy-girl-with-bedroom-hair themes, which have come to dominate video look books over the past few years. Which, we like–change is good.
We wrote last week about Miu Miu’s Valentine’s Day collection, featuring the brand’s first forray into iphone and ipad cases, and here are some more looks at the bag offerings. The collection has a red, beige and blue color theme, with bags often featuring the trademark Miu Miu ruffles, which youthen the label and distinguish it from its older sister, Prada. Bits and pieces of Rihanna’s latest video for her single, “S&M,” have been leaked and given the title and lyrics, there was some concern (on my part anyway) that the full video would be a step back in her evolution away from the dark and troubled Rihanna that had fueled her look and music during the “Chris Brown” era. And while this video tells us Rihanna hasn’t abandoned her past, what’s changed is now she owns it and is having a good time poking fun at it. It goes without saying the fashion is amazing–from her giant, red curly locks (note to Allure: “scary,” really??) to the white latex suit and newsprint dress, it’s all perfectly on point and a major visual treat. [UPDATE: My partner. SGP, points out that the furs are via Prada, which, yes, I concur that they are indeed experiencing a moment. Also, Perez Hilton makes a guest appearance....and not for nothing, Rih, but was that really necessary?]
When the average teen in big cities can walk around with real high-end, logo accessorie , it tells you that luxury’s accessibility changed, and that consumers are more than ever willing to pay for it. Keeping the big players on their toes to constantly provide new ways to make a product special, desireable. In that case personalization if done well is always a good bet. On that note of stepping up its game, Prada announces that as of January 15th, in 12 Prada stores worldwide and exclusively on Prada.com some of its signature bags such as backpacks, trolleys and shopping bags in saffianoleather or camouflage prints can be customized with the attachment of the multicolored initials you can see above. No Doubt, led by Gwen Stefani, all wore Prada for the Kennedy Center Honors event, held in D.C. this past weekend. According to Justjared, the group performed a Beatles medley, a tribute to Paul McCartney, who was a guest of honor at the event. One more of just Gwen after the flip.
