Converse X Music Fall 2008 5 Converse Fall 08 preview

This is the Converse Chuck Taylor all star Low Profile part of the fall preview  ,this illustrates to me the circular trend of high -end labels getting inpiration from street icons like converse who then take inspiration from the now ever popular designer sneaker…No shoe laces…sleek and modern..Still authentic.

Converse 100-Year Anniversary X Pharrell, Santogold & Julian Casablancas

12 June 2008, 15.13 | Posted in Chicks with Kicks, Music, Sneakers | No comments »

Converse is celebrating its 100th year anniversary and natch, they’ve hooked up with some indie-cool artists as a way to promote the event. If you visit the site, you can download "My Drive Thru," a song that went live yesterday and includes contributions from N.E.R.D., Santogold and The Strokes Julian Casablancas. A video and behind-the-scenes imagery isn’t on the site yet, but will be soon.

If you don’t want to download the song, someone already uploaded the music up to YouTube. It’s aiiight, in my opinion. The beat is great, but by the middle it sounds like way to many cooks were meddling in the kitchen.

ShopBop Top Seller: Tie-Dyed Chucks!

12 June 2008, 14.37 | Posted in Chicks with Kicks, Sneakers, Stores | No comments »

The typical ShopBop customer–in my mind anyway–brings to mind that quintinsential, post-Sex-and-the-City female, who’s basic uniform is a flirty dress or designer jeans and heels. So I was a little surprised when I checked the site’s best seller’s list and discovered that a pair of tie-dyed Chuck Taylors were riding high:

Additionally, for all you bargain shoppers, ShopBop is in the midst of having a big ole 30%-70%-off sale.

Superga @ FFANY

What I like about Italian shoe brand Superga is that it’s not only a legitimate brand with a heritage, but it’s also got love for women. Converse may dabble in femmy colors and treatments, but for Superga, there’s a clear focus on keeping up with current fashion trends.

Superga: U.S. Launch?

23 January 2008, 13.46 | Posted in Sneakers | No comments »

At the WSA (a big giant shoe show that takes place in Las Vegas) last year, one of the cutest displays belonged to Italian shoe company Superga (see below). The company wasn’t so much writing orders as introducing the idea of the brand to U.S. markets.

^^Superga at the WSA 2007. The shoes were tied to another great Italian tradition, red Fiats.

According to my sources, it was once sold here, but was overdistributed and eventually died a slow death. It’s back now, migrating here based on the strength of its sales in Europe, where it’s been a popular alternative to Chucks. The company promises that it’s going to keep its distribution limited, and indeed, when just now I looked, the only online retailer selling it was Jildor.

I visited another Superga showcase after the WSA and there I signed up for a free pair of Superga kicks. Well, they finally arrived today in the correct size and everything. I like ‘em cause they’re something different from the same ole Converse, but the only thing is I’m starting to wonder how I feel about canvas.
