Judging from Miu Miu’s Pre-spring 2012 collection, the label looks to maintain its position as princess of the big-name designer labels (with Prada the reigning queen, natch), crusing on a combination of established brand clout + a right-for-the-moment design aeshetic that can be best described as girly city slicker. With the help of Steve Meisel, Prada shows off its leading looks for Autumn 2011. What’s great about this video presentation is the fashion speaks for itself. No need for tricky camera angles or sultry models throwing their hair around, just grogeous, mouth-watering designs more than capable of handling the lead.

In the second installment of its “Women’s Tales” series, Miu Miu collaborated with director Lucrecia Martel on a film noir titled Muta. Great product placement shots, clever imagery hinting to female transformation, presented as something robotic and otherworldly that puzzles as much as it attracts. The film even features  a black woman with a ‘fro(!) Noteworthy because as much as we’ve admired Miuccia ’s creativity since the inception of her brands, diversity in ads  and presentation has been very rare. Not that it is common among her contemporaries, however, as a pioneer of out-of-the-box style and individualism, more diversity we  believe would increase the already hot factor of   the Prada and Miu Miu  brands tenfolds, especially that now  investors are watching.

Rihanna casually strolls the streets of New York in a shirt dress paired with Prada creepers, which are said to be sold to the wall. Not a bit suprised Ms. Fenty copped a pair!

New York fashion photographer Julia Chesky snapped the Gucci window recently and got up close and personal with this pair of earthy espadrilles.  It’s a look that doesn’t exactly spring to mind when one things of the slickness that is Gucci, but no matter, somehow they totally work.

Prada showed these caps on its recent Spring 2012 runway show. We’re hoping they foreshadow some similarly cute chapeau for the ladies….like maybe visors even?

Gucci, Gucci, Louis, Louis, Fendi, Fendi, Prada…..Autumn goodies are starting to hit retail and in the handbag category we’re spotting lots of fur. Prada offers up this “Cavallino” leopard print bag which you can preorder for an October ship.

Used to be back in the ’90s backpacks were the hot item in New York City. You’d go to a coat check at a party (Giant Step, anyone?) and it’d be filled with (mostly) guys’ Northface backpacks. And then those Prada nylon mini-ones became huge and at at that time the counterfeiters were at the height of their powers and you could buy a very good copy all over New York City. In terms of popularity that Prada bag was akin to the LV Speedy today–so everywhere you couldn’t help but think, “Real or fake?” everytime you laid eyes on it.  

So anyway, now Shopbop is saying they’re back in style again. Fashion repeats itself, yes, but always with a twist so it’ll be interesting to see how this trend works itself out this time around…if it does at all.
