LA RAPS- Makin Loot Shorts

Discovered at Community54’s pop-up, RAP L.A is a clothing and accessories line filled with pop references and a sense of humour. Every piece makes a statement, no wonder the line  has designed costumes for Nicki Minaj. Between the “Makin’ Loot” bootie shorts (a Louis Vuittion simulation), “Holy Necklace,” “Lucky Charms” bracelets or the “Hoodrat” necklace, RAP L.A.  provides lots to talk about when it comes to perception, stereotypes and consumption. Take a look at our faves on the flip.

Amy Winehouse Fred Perry

Amy Winehouse’s final collaboration with Fred Perry. As a testament to the beauty she brought to our lives see below the statement release by Fred Perry:

“After much consideration and with the blessing of Amy’s family, Fred Perry has decided to release the AW11 range and wholesale the SS12 Amy Winehouse for Fred Perry Collection. Amy was passionate and dedicated to the collaboration and her signature style is clearly stamped across each piece. In such circumstances, Amy’s royalties and fees from both collections will be donated to the soon to be established Amy Winehouse Foundation. Fred Perry will also make a seasonal donation to the Foundation.”

Elements Showcase: Strange Invisible Perfumes

Strange Invisible Perfumes Zoziac

We had the opportunity to visit Strange Invisible Perfumes at Element Showcase this week and found ourselves enamored with the simplicity and refinement of their  concept. Founded by Alexandra Balahoutis,  each scent is made of certified organic botanicals. Devoid or animal products (hence vegan!) or artificial components, the scents have a depth that I previous only thought would be attainable with some animal musk , thankfully that is not the case. Our favorites include “Fire &Cream,” “Dimanche,” and the newly launched collection of Zodiac scents (above).  For more info visit  here.

It was without a doubt a ”scene” with  long lines, lots of interesting looks, and of course sneakers galore. We even spotted a young woman in the Vashtie Jordans. More on the flip!

ANYthing Ft. Venus X Lookbook Spring/Summer 2012

ANYThingVenusX (4)

New York streetwear label aNYthing smartly tags DJ and party promoter Venus X, aka Jazmin Venus Soto, for the face of its Spring/Summer 2012 lookbook.  A rising star and uniquely stunning in the way that only a NYC-hood-born-chick-gone worldwide can be, she took on her first fashion-related DJ gig during NY Fashion Week Autumn 2011 for Gerlan jeans and is best known for her GHE20G0TH1K ongoing warehouse party.

Here’s what she had to say in a recent Rolling Stone interview on fashion:

RS: What do you enjoy most (or least) about fashion?
Venus:
I don’t really like it! It’s too expensive, and the best stuff is underfunded. I see a lot of corny mass production; the exclusive next level pieces exist only in sample. Fashion is wack right now for the most part. It’s mad branding and no love!

Smart woman that Venus!
