IHDADarrenWallace 540x366 Independent Handbag Design Awards: Preliminary Judging

Samia and I last week were honored to represent Timberland as preliminary judges for the 5th Annual Independent Handbag Design Awards, sponsored by InStyle magazine. It’s a meaningful event to us because extending a hand to the up and comers is one of our favorite parts of editing Highsnobette.

The sentiment is the same for one-woman-handbag dynamo and the event host, Emily Blumenthal (who could have a side career as a stand-up comic–she is truly that funny), who launched the event in 2006 to help advance the careers of independent handbag designers. At the preliminary event, we viewed slides of over 1,000 bags submitted in eight different award categories from designers worldwide.

Above is an example of one eye-catching entry, a Chuck Taylor handbag by Darren Wallace, who entered it in the “Best Green Handbag” category. You can view many more of the entries here. Winners will be chosen on June 15th held in New York City.

TBLLucille Compass: Timberland Boot Company Spring 2010

Boots aren’t going anywhere in 2010, but expect to see a lot more lace-ups at retail compared to last year. The newer trends are authentic/workboot-inspired so the  best ones will have a vintage appeal.  Timberland Boot Company (a snobbier subdivision of Timberland) hits all the right marks with its women’s spring collection, as epitomized by the Lucille boot shown above.

See three more styles after the flip, priced from $170-$300.

One of the coolest factors of the NYC retail scene is that the dynamic turn around of locations  and spaces allows for vacant store fronts that can be occupied by young exciting brands like NAU. Their pop-up store opened in Soho , NYC   last week with  a great assortment of apparel from their Autumn/Winter “09 collection as well as items from Timberland, Freitag and Horny Toad. The space just like the label  aims to be eco-friendly by re-purposing cardboard and wood while a portion of the proceeds go to various not for profit organizations. On the next page a  closer at what that caught our eye.

Timberland Debuts Premium Women’s Collection!

marge5 Timberland Debuts Premium Womens Collection!

As macho as Timberland is, over the years, it’s done its fair share of things for us ladies. Besides the fact that  plenty of us did our own version of machista cool in a pair of six-inch wheats, who could forget the winter of Timberland-inspired Manolo Blahniks, which first caught fire when they were spotted on the feet of BX fave, Jennifer Lopez? (and which Timbs eventually made their own version of.)

This collection, however, is a lil’ more refined and is clearly trying to take things next level for all us grown Timbs lovers. Known as the “Depression Era Chic” collection, it was inspired by the “post-industrial working woman.” The styles  featured here are known as “Marge,” inspired by fashionable females working hard for the money in cities worldwide. They launch in the fall and two of the stores where you can purchase them are Shoe Biz in SF and Soula in BK. You may also purchase them at Timberland (where you can also check out some neat riding boots).

More on the other side, including some cute-as-can-be peep toes!

colette timberland 540x258 Colette Says Timbs Are Très Chic?

There is no denying that in these parts we are quite fond of the taste level  of the good people at Colette. But, this recent collaboration with timberland where all they did was add their logo to the tongue and blue accents make me wonder. I have no issue with Timberlandor the whole work wear trend , but I would have loved to see colette do more with the design and actually make me want to go there. For $330 I’ll pass.Kanye West  has  been rocking  construction boots lately and we know that  some people in fashion are loving him right now.Via nymag.

The Margie

Taking a smart approach that is very relevant to their brand, Timberland inspires their women’s collection, paying homage to workwear styles of 1940’s America. Function, durability, flair and femininity are combined to create a new and exciting aesthetic. Each style is inspired and named after a forward thinking, courageous and individual woman of that time, drawing reference inspiration from each woman’s story. A Highsnobette  exclusive look at the collection on the next page.

wang cover Alexander Wang Autumn/Winter 09: The Shoes!

Alexander Wang’s Autumn/Winter ‘09 collection  has been  raved about by various editors , as he has been able to capture a mix of high,  low and edgy that adequately reflects an urban aesthetic fashion is currently enamored with . Where Wang really shines tough,  is in his shoe collection where he included  laced- stiletto boots that slightly remind me of  the Manolo okla boots  J.lo made famous, flat pointy-toed boots  with  hardware and  sexy plexi-heel  booties above. I want them all…

Check out the shoes o the next page.
