Topshop Gets ‘Very Inspired’ By Bijules

Topshopnail 540x304 Topshop Gets Very Inspired By Bijules

Being a Snobette in our definition is  in many ways  about loving the authenticity in style and fashion in all its quality,  creativity and even quirkiness. While fast fashion mega brands have been praised with democratizing fashion, we often wish the offerings were more unique/original and did not get “inspired” by talented creatives who create lust-worthy pieces with originality and sass.  A few years back we noticed Madewell’s “love” of A PeaceTreaty and recently, the cool ladies of Sixsixsickgirls bring to our attention Topshop’s Nail tip ring, which clearly is a rendition of the famed Bijules nail ring. All we have to say is why? Why not create something unique?

 Madewell Whistletop Platform Sandals

I saw these last weekend in the Madewell windows and have been thinking about them ever since.  They’re not my usual knee-jerk-luv shoes, but  paired with the casual standards of white  denim, tees and of course chambray they just work. Then again it could just be that hanging around my buddies  from the Jcrew men’s shop is rubbing off of me? Mickey Drexler and Jenna Lyons have me looking at sensible heels now? Oh my… If like me you’re kinda taken by the “Whistletops,” they are available here in three colors .

 Madewell Spring/Summer 2011

Madewell is a line that looks obvious but isn’t as available at retail as much as one might guess given how creative-types, especially fashion editors, tend to like this look: on-trend silhouettes (in this case trousers and woven tops), slim-fitting but not tight and a little earthy. Basically it’s the look pushed by Lucky magazine (at least prior to the firing of Kim France), which is good because there is need for it in the marketplace. Still, one can’t help but dream it could be just a touch edgier. More images on the next page. Via WWD.

Model and tv personality Alexa Chung grabs U.K. Elle’s November cover. It’s a great distinct cover that accomplishes a lot in terms of statement-making fashion and letting Chung’s personality shine. For those of you fuzzy on who Chung is, she recently caught a ton of buzz for her very successful collabo with Madewell. Via Twenty2.

AlexaChungFront Madewell X Alexa Chung Now Available

The Madewell X Alexa Chung collection launched this morning and some items are already sold out. At first glance, this collection can seem a bit underwhelming….it’s like, all the buzz for what exactly? But then upon closer examination it begins to click, like oh, those shorts and that blouse are no big deal except that they’re velvet, which is kind of neat and different without being flashy or over the top. Like we mentioned yesterday, pretty much perfect for the chain’s demographic, who perhaps is a big more grown, but still appreciates a dollop of fancy. More items after the flip.

MadewellFall4 Madewell Autumn 2010 Lookbook

J.Crew’s artsier older sister, Madewell, now has its autumn lookbook on line. This is a brand that is clearly very comfortable with what it is and where it wants to be. Right now it’s at about 15 doors, which makes it a lot easier when it comes to editing a collection. It’ll be interesting to see how big the company tries to expand the concept and what happens to it if it does.  Via Popbee. More images after the flip.

A Peace Treaty vs. Madewell : Inspiration That Makes You Go Hmm

14 July 2010, 14.05 | Posted in Common Sense, Fashion | 1 comment »

apt vs madewell

They say imitation is the highest form of flattery, however, when a mega brand like  Madewell replicates the same  pattern  of socially-conscious label A Peace Treaty’s  ”Chesil” scarf from  Spring ‘09 you really wonder. It’s not like a polka-dot print or even a checkered print  that can be fair game.  We had a lot of love for you Madewell, but now we’re frowning! Yes technically the colors are not the same, and the pattern was inverted, but the similarity is clear.   If you like A Peace Treaty  so much why not do the coolest thing, commission special designs, pay them a nice chunk of change  and therefore contribute  to their social causes. More images of both on the flip.
