Lovely singer MIA prepared an original piece named after her upcoming album, MATANGI for Kenzo Womens Autumn/Winter 2013 show. Mostly instrumental, featuring a number of wild and unidentified samples, the dense mix’s second half features a few new M.I.A. verses, including these gems: I’m thankful for my body because it’s a fuckin banger/ I’m thankful for my mouth because it’s a real screamer and Do you like my perfume? Made it at home with some gasoline and shrooms/… Why’s your tattoo some ugly looking thing?

It’s Monday and we have a full week to plan our evening activities for the next weekend. Since we spend the majority of our dark and cold week nights huddled inside, preferably under a duvet, sheltering from the cruel, harsh, outside world we shall try to find activities that help us to boost our mood. Japanese retailer Beauty & Youth once again teamed up with Vans and will release an Animal Pack featuring two Era low top sneaker fr Spring 2013. Each era comes with suede uppers and either zebra print or leopard print. The sneakers will release on March 6.

London based Cléo Ferrin Mercury creates silk scarves with a playful graphic twist. Her spring 2013 ‘Under the sea’ collection includes bight under ocean graphics applied to scarves a well as collars. The Grace Jones scarf above part of the ‘Icons’ collection had us pause in admiration. See more on the next page.

Ferragamo alum Barbara Briones showed her latest collection at Capsule in New York this past week. I of course had to stop and admire the craftsmanship and attention to detail that is evident in each pair.

Simon Porte Jacquemus, with his label Jacquemus defenitely proofed his creativity by bringing his fashion show for the Autumn/Winter 2013 collection to one of the fanciest fashion show locations at Paris Fashion Week I’ve seen so far. Of course H&M did an impressive set-up for their show at Musée Rodin, but to show a collection in a public piscine was new to me. The bigger was the WOW-effect when seeing the images of people wearing blue plastic shoes and standing bravely in line at the lip of the pool. But now, let’s talk about the collection. I am a big fan of Jaquemus, so the young, fresh and somehow rebellious but still French chic that the collection is representing, is just what I loved, love and will always love at Jacquemus’ designs. Last week we reported about Nike’s ‘Flyknit Experince’ taking place in the halls of a former train station in Berlin-Kreuzberg. Locals and industry people met to lace up a fresh pair of Flyknit Lunar 1’s and run along an indoor track lined with giant disco balls and a huge installation by Jenny Sabin consisting of data from Nike’s Fuelband.

Shoe giant Steve Madden dropped the look book for Spring/Summer 2013, showing new styles of their always very eye-catching wedges and also a pair of booties that remind strongly of the Isabel Marant embroidered booties.

One of the reasons Lois and I often frown on the  stereotypical representation of the Bon qui qui’s of the world is that they tend to inspire fashion, not just what we see on the streets, but high end fashion. Of course the piling on of jewellery as we see in this Lanvin show can be traced as far back to the Romans, kings and queens of the Middle East,  Africa, Asia etc. However to bring this little expose of  closer  to this century I can also site Mr.T , Run DMC , most rappers of the 80s’s and 90’s, and most recently Trinidad James in his ‘All Gold Everything’ video . Honorable mention also goes to the incomparable Iris Apfel (She rocks). Needless to say as an accessories fiend I want every single chain assortment in the show.
