Lena Dunham Q&A With Playboy Magazine

Lena Dunham Q&A With Playboy Magazine

Lena Dunham has an interview with q&a and as usual she’s a joy to read. One of those people for whom an era has been waiting, and we know this because she’s very much truth to power and puts voice and clarity to all of the many thoughts that have been swimming around our heads for too, too long. Needless to say, we appreciate her deeply! Here are some highlights:

I never chalk up anything to the gender divide and say, “Well, that’s just a male thing.” I hate the conventional wisdom that men are supposedly complete pieces of shit and it’s our job as women to put up with them. Men are just as sensitive and easily victimized as women are, but there’s not as much of an infrastructure for expressing it. That drives me nuts. We’re all humans and doing human stuff.

On Girls I like being a mouthpiece for the issues I think young females face today. It’s always shocking when people question whether it’s a feminist show. How could a show about women exploring women not be? Feminism isn’t a dirty word. It’s not like we’re a deranged group who think women should take over the planet, raise our young on our own and eliminate men from the picture. Feminism is about women having all the rights that men have.

While being racist and promoting inequality are crimes that should be punished, the sin of writing two Jewish girl characters and two Waspy characters feels less egregious to me. I’ve tried to be elegant about it and receive the criticism, and I understand what’s hard about it. At the same time I’m like, Really?

Above image lifted from Girls Instagram account–apparently Dunham is in Austin at the moment. See the entire Playboy interview here.

HBO Girls Today Show Interview

The cast of HBO’s Girls, Lena Dunham, Allison Williams, Jemima Kirke and Zosia Mamet, was interviewed on the Today Show this morning. The best part of the Q&A might have been the hilarious disconnect between the cast and the interviewer, who describes being frequently “mortified” when watching the show, a reaction the girls don’t exactly connect with. Bonus points to Kirke for her pajama-y outfit. On her own bravery Dunham comments,

“I always think it’s brave to step into the mouth of a lion or — to save a baby but it’s not that brave to get naked if you’re not scared to get naked.”

The interview is part of the promotion leading up to the return of season 2 on January 13th.

Video: Girls–Male Character Story Lines Season 2

18 December 2012, 19.40 | Posted in Television | No comments »

In yet another sneak peek video for Girls season 2, the male actors who play the parts of Adam, Charlie, Elijah & Ray, sit down with Lena Dunham over beers and sketch out their story lines for season 2. If you don’t like to know things in advance, then stop here and do not watch the video above. If you are a curious cat, then watch the video above and continue to read, starting below with what what actor Adam Strong has to say about his charcter:

“Adam is surprised about how strong his feelings are for Hannah and he tries a new relationship.”

In the exchange, Dunham explains the odd conflict of directing a character who also plays her former boyfriend. The most interesting revelation is not so much each story line, but that the men appear to have staying power as characters beyond their roles as boyfriends, a noteworthy change from Sex & the City (no we’re not done with making comparisons yet), in which the fellas often came and went from the main character’s lives much like pairs of shoes.

Girls: Sneak Peeks For Season 2

HBOGirls3 540x315 Girls: Sneak Peeks For Season 2

Sneak peeks from HBO’s Girls‘ second season are beginning to pop up on line, including the above image, which tells us there will be at least a few more episodes featuring the strangely compelling–and still shirtless, Adam Sackler (Adam Driver), who, we’re told by EW is “recovering from being hit by a car last season, and he’s still feeling rejected by Hannah (Lena Dunham).” More hints at what to expect include the following tidbits:

When Girls returns, Jessa receives a wedding gift from her new husband, Thomas-John (Chris O’Dowd): puppies! Also in the mix, Hannah’s ex-boyfriend/gay best friend, Elijah (Andrew Rannells), has moved in with her, and they’re throwing a housewarming party, complete with a karaoke performance of a Sarah McLachlan song. ”Of course, Hannah being Hannah, the party cannot go successfully,” Dunham reveals. ”Even though she made cheesy pretzels.”

Like we did for season 1, expect weekly analysis of the fashion featured in each episode. See a couple more sneak peek images (including shots of the puppies) on the next page.

HBO Girls Season 2 Preview–Returning January 13th

16 October 2012, 15.07 | Posted in Television, celebrity | No comments »

This is a pretty bad sneak peek (not to mention it came out like a month ago though I do believe the official January 13th premiere date is new news) but it’s nice to see that the character who played Hannah’s boyfriend, Adam, has returned.

And what is writer/show creator Lena Dunham who plays the part of Hannah up to these days? Besides undergoing “Citizen’s Arrest” by Usmagazine for a recent outfit, she’s taking an “old-fashioned” European bus tour, according to her Twitter.
