As we were  looking at the opaque/ sheer legwear  trend on the Spring 2010 runway Free People steps out with The Puzzle Piece Pants, that I of course can totally be into. The Cashmere & wool composition  kind of explain the close to $400 price tag , added to the “Made in the USA” label. The bright color “shy” in me  of course wants this dress to be in black, but somehow this little  pink dress  with designer Gaurav Gupta’s artful  use of zippers and draping was able to go from pretty and cute to edgy & hawt. Detailed images on the next page. Available at Bombay electric.

I have never heard of the Marios Label, but they are surely now on my radar with this creation of a top connected to leggings, that can also become a scarf. When we were invited to visit the new Tommy Hilfiger store on fifth avenue , in NYC . I was very curious to see what this brand who made a killing in the nineties would translate their aesthetic in a 4 floor retail space of 22,000 square feet. The result is impressive. Having had a xtensive background in visual merchandising i found myself in awe of all the themes developed in each floor and of course it’s flawless execution by Trent Wisehart and his team. I have always thought that the Tommy Hilfiger label was always in delicate spot in the market as their theme of “Americana “can be  identified with  at least two other brands I can think of.

The  Tommy Hilfiger  global flagship is a  step in a bold new  direction, and we cannot wait to see how the brand will progress going forward, because  we all know it takes more than a hot store to build a brand that will stand the test of time and  fickle trends. Last night we scoured the streets of Soho during fashion ’s night out, to see how the shopping   festivity was was going to take place. The always buzzing neighborhood of Soho was filled with pedestrians going from store to store enjoying various events, food , drinks  and music. Levis & Costume National were jamming!

As the shopping night seemed to have been successful for big brands and retailers who aggressively advertised to  pull crowds into their stores. Independent designers and  boutiques we visited experienced a slight increase in traffic but  pretty much no sales. One handsome boutique owner even compared  the night  to ‘halloween for fashion” an interesting analogy when I for one was looking forward to  see a plethora of decked out individuals perusing the street but I was left underwhelmed. Nonetheless  duo above , too fabulous for words, allowed me to have my first  Garance/Tommy Ton  moment .
