Laces Boutique: R.I.P. : (

30 January 2008, 18.02 | Posted in Sneakers, Stores | No comments »

Someone yesterday mentioned to me that Laces, the New York female sneaker boutique had lost its Nike account, and then I saw the news today on Racked that it’s officially closed.

Retail is a tough business and I give Louis Colon, who opened Laces two years ago, props for having the balls to give it a shot. He was up against a lot from the very start. Beyond women just being a lot less dedicated to kicks than men, he didn’t get a lot of support from the major sneaker companies, who to this day play like Mr. Big when it comes to committment to the female customer.

Store or no store, Louis remains a very good guy so we here at HighSnobette expect that he will recover quickly from this minor setback and be on to the next project.

Much love and props + sending some beer spillage in Lace’s direction,

Nike Women’s @ OverKillShop.com

25 January 2008, 02.02 | Posted in Sneakers, Stores | No comments »

OverKillShop is serving up some new models of Nike footwear, designed specifically for us females. Some of ‘em are just gorgeous and should make more than a few of the fellas green with envy. For a change!

I started with my favorites and worked my way down. Though in retrospect, I probably liked the Zoom Blazer Lows better than the Capris Mid CVS. The print is what put it so high up on my list. And yeah, you know, I got a thing for hightops, too.

Toodles,

Superga: U.S. Launch?

23 January 2008, 13.46 | Posted in Sneakers | No comments »

At the WSA (a big giant shoe show that takes place in Las Vegas) last year, one of the cutest displays belonged to Italian shoe company Superga (see below). The company wasn’t so much writing orders as introducing the idea of the brand to U.S. markets.

RTEmagicC Superga 001.jpg Superga: U.S. Launch?

^^Superga at the WSA 2007. The shoes were tied to another great Italian tradition, red Fiats.

According to my sources, it was once sold here, but was overdistributed and eventually died a slow death. It’s back now, migrating here based on the strength of its sales in Europe, where it’s been a popular alternative to Chucks. The company promises that it’s going to keep its distribution limited, and indeed, when just now I looked, the only online retailer selling it was Jildor.

I visited another Superga showcase after the WSA and there I signed up for a free pair of Superga kicks. Well, they finally arrived today in the correct size and everything. I like ‘em cause they’re something different from the same ole Converse, but the only thing is I’m starting to wonder how I feel about canvas.

Vans Spring ‘08 Preview!

23 January 2008, 01.44 | Posted in Sneakers | No comments »

Vans was previewing its spring 2008 line today at its New York showroom and I got a chance to go over there and scope out the goods. I picked out my faves and then Maria, who reps the women’s part of Vans’ line, showed me the stuff she thought would be a big hit this spring. Which ones are YOUR faves?:

Mine first:

^^Wellesley high-tops: I’m still loving the look of a pair of high-tops with straight legs and they don’t come much more adorable than these. I especially like the strawberry-colored ones on the far right.

^^From the Vault collection: this one is a collabo with Detroit artist Niagara; again, I’m partial to these ’cause they’re high.

^^A canvas slip-on from the Vault Niagara series. This one reads “I Am Not Your Bitch.”

One more Vault Niagara: “You’ll Tell Nobody Nothing.”

Maria thinks a big trend this spring is going to be more streamlined looks. Here are some of the shoes that are getting a big response from retailers (not that ones above aren’t; Maria thinks hightops are the hotness, too):

^^Pointy-toed ballet flats. The prints on these are really amazing.

RTEmagicC AbbyBoatshoe.jpg Vans Spring 08 Preview!

^^Satin boat shoes. These images do NOT do these extra cute shoes justice (especially since the red one is out of focus, dammit!).

RTEmagicC LowProfiles.jpg Vans Spring 08 Preview!

^^Low profile canvas group. The colors, patterns and fabrics are what help Vans stand out from the crowd. Plus, the little Vans logo is pretty happening, too!

RTEmagicC Sk8 HiClassic.jpg Vans Spring 08 Preview!

^^Sk-8 Hi in white canvas. Maria said that this style, which, while not new, is consistently popular among stylists requesting products for shoots. I mean, how can you beat an all white classic? Every sneaker brand of any merit can claim one. The ones that can’t? Well, they’re just not as good.

I hope you liked!

Atmos x Hello Kitty x Ubiq Grace

Atmos continues their collaboration with Hello Kitty and this time also brought Ubiq on board to work on a sneaker. They used one of our favorite Ubiq models for this collaboration – the Grace.

The Atmos x Hello Kitty x Ubiq Grace comes in three colorways – white/red, black/blue and brown/green. The upper is made up of suede and patent leather with further details on the mid sole, the back heel and the tongue tag hinting the Hello Kitty collaboration.

Atmos will be releasing the pack on the 18th of January.

Reebok St. Valentine Pack

09 January 2008, 22.05 | Posted in Sneakers | No comments »

Reebok St. Valentine PackOf course Nike is not the only sneaker brand to use St. Valentine as another occasion to get their footwear to the people. Here you see now what Reebok proposes. Their St. Valentine Pack consists of a Freestyle and another low top sneaker. In terms of design the pack is almost classic, and we prefer that over the approach that Nike took this year. Via Conope.
