adidas jeremy scott ss13 5 Adidas X Jeremy Scott Pink Poodle And Camo Bear Collection

Here is a first look at the Adidas Originals by Jeremy Scott Spring 2013 collection. Yes, we know that Jeremy Scott’s creations are always very eccentric, but somehow he always manages to surprise us or at least makes us wonder about whether we could ever feel fierce enough to wear his sneakers. Staying with the theme of plush toys, the line this time around features a pink poodle and camo bear. The sneakers will officially release March 15th and can be preordered from LuisaViaRoma.

Check out the next page for the camo bear.

Nike Relaunches Air Force 1 Starting With ‘AF1 Lunar Force’

NikeLunarForce1 540x404 Nike Relaunches Air Force 1 Starting With AF1 Lunar Force

If you spend any time at all on Twitter you know that Nike has cranked up its influencer machine around the 30th anniversary celebration and relaunch of its mighty Air Force 1, doing the usual gathering of fashionable folks who are being spirited away to various secret locations, gifted with product (plus tons of Kool Aid), which they’re now happily Tweeting all about, pinning posts with #keepitcoming.

The above image is Nike’s AF1 Lunar Force, a lighter sleeker version of the Uptown and the first in the “Family of Force” series, which will be available for purchase starting today at Nike’s Pivot Point pop-up shop in Brooklyn near the Barclay Center (520 Atlantic Avenue).

Nike designer Marc Dolce who was responsible for the project sat down with GQ magazine and here is one quote from the q&a on how the original shoe was altered:

“We wanted to make them lighter and leaner since they can be kind of heavy. We went from making it 18 ounces to about 12. That was a big call out. When you’re walking around all day with shoes, your legs feel it and we wanted to make sure it was something you wear all the time. And what we really wanted to do was make it more flexible. I think that was something missing in the original. It wasn’t so flexible; it really didn’t feel good to the foot.”

Camilla Skovgaard Two-Tone Leather Sneakers

A sharp contrast of black and white against a modernist silhouette with a pebbled texture give Camilla Skovgaard’s Autumn 2012 sneakers high notes as a purveyor of covetable footwear styles with an edge.  The sneakers are now available at Luisaviaroma and bear a striking resemblance to Rick Owens’ chunkier silhouette. Given Skovgaard affinity for the Owen’s label I would not be surprised if they collaborated on the design.

H&M x Margiela: The Two Items That Sold Out The Fastest

19 November 2012, 18.40 | Posted in Designer Collaboration, Sneakers, bags | No comments »

Not saying this is a scientific study but at least at the H&M store located in the Columbus Circle mall in Manhattan, the staff uniformly agreed that the red high-top sneakers and the red “Candy Wrapper” clutch (a “re-edition” from the Spring 2010 collection–see the original here) basically blew out and were gone not long after the store opened.

Me personally I hate high-low designer collaborations and feel like they’re good for the low brand but are a long-term terrible for the high brand (I’m waiting for Alber Elbez to one day admit this). All that blah-blah-blah aside, as it happens I was in Manhattan on the day of the launch and decided to check it out. Giant failed snob that I am, I proceeded to buy three items and would have bought more but was just coming off off a budget killing CL sample sale and simply could not.

My sense at the time–and WWD has since confirmed this–was that this collection wasn’t as big  a hit as past collabos. For as much as Kanye and A$AP have made Margiela a household name for the fashion conscious youthful masses, a lot of the cuts were simply too big, boxy or artsy, making them conceptually tough for many to visualize fitting in with their wardrobes.

On a related side note….how hot is the color red lately??

See the “Candy Wrapper” clutch on the next page.

The collection of five designs was launched on October 23 in Brazil, including one that features  a poem written by the 104-year old architect. Unfortunately the Niemeyer-Converse collection sells only in Brazil, where Niemeyer was born and still lives in Rio de Janeiro.

Nike 36-Hour Experience – Recap

Nike 36 h experience recap 3 Nike 36 Hour Experience Recap
Nike invited me to a “36-hour experience” in Berlin to not only show off its latest products but to put me – along with a number of other journalists and bloggers from around Europe – in the hot seat.

Women’s marathon world record holder Paula Radcliffe led us in a warm-up and gave us a motivational talk before setting out on a rave run through Tiergarten that finished in a venue where the new Flyknit One was presented. Along with a special morning yoga session the next day, we got the unique opportunity to test drive the Nike Studio Wrap, the world’s first yoga shoe, hitting stores in Spring 2013.

Afterwards, a powerful #NTC workout class with track and field sprint record holder Allyson Felix was held, setting the tone for an active 2013. Later that day, during the course of a showcase at Spindler und Klatt (an old warehouse next to the Spree river), the Nike Spring/Summer 2013 collection, as well as the new Air Max One and the Air Max 2013 were presented making the sports activities of the day totally worth it. Knowing what sports gear awaits us next season, I am definitely motivated to keep the level of fitness I reached over the past two days!

Check out some images of the event on the next page.
